ABOUT THE POSITION
Job Title: Diesel Motor Mechanic
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Location: Wattleup, WA 6166 (Workshop-based with site work across Perth Metropolitan and regional Western Australia)
Annual Salary: $82,500 (excluding superannuation)
Position Description
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for the diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of diesel engines and heavy equipment, including trucks, trailers, and drill rigs. The role supports both workshop and field service operations, ensuring equipment reliability, safety, and performance across UFWE’s client base in mining, transport, and heavy industry sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair diesel engines and mechanical faults.
- Perform preventive maintenance servicing (PMS) on trucks, trailers, drill rigs, and diesel-powered equipment.
- Repair and maintain brake systems, suspension, steering, and under chassis components.
- Service and repair transmission, cooling, fuel, and hydraulic systems.
- Conduct inspections to ensure vehicles, mobile plant, and drill rigs meet safety and operational standards.
- Perform breakdown repairs in the workshop and on-site (field service).
- Assist in rebuilds and component replacements (engine components, belts, bearings, hydraulic parts, etc.).
- Use diagnostic tools and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and repair procedures.
- Maintain accurate service records, job cards, and parts usage.
- Support general workshop operations and assist other trades when required.
- Always follow workplace health and safety procedures.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology (Automotive Technology) or equivalent.
- Minimum 3+ years’ experience as a Diesel or Truck Mechanic.
- Experience working on trucks, trailers, drill rigs, or similar heavy/mobile plant.
- Experience in preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and breakdown repairs.
- Workshop and field service experience.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and mechanical systems.
- Experience in brake, suspension, transmission, and electrical systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to safety, quality, and efficiency.
Pay: $82,500.00 per year
