Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity exists for 5th Year Registrars (Fellows) to undertake a training role in the Department of Ophthalmology. Positions commencing February and August 2027.

The Registrar provides day to day Ophthalmology services to patients presenting to the hospital. It is intended that the Registrar will both maximise their own professional development and to assist in the professional development of junior medical staff and the training of students.

Using a patient focused care approach; the position will contribute to a total quality patient service by providing Ophthalmology services as part of Sunshine Coast Health. There is a strong focus on patient outcomes rather than individual expertise, and as such the concept of a team approach is fostered, incorporating all levels of medical, nursing, and allied health staff. The heavy workload of the Department of Ophthalmology creates a challenging but fulfilling work environment that depends on all staff exhibiting commitment to patient care and working as a cohesive group.

Sunshine Coast Health is in southeast Queensland and extends through the coastal and hinterland areas from Caloundra in the south and Gympie in the north.

Key Responsibilities include:
Provide high quality, safe Ophthalmology care and advice to patients presenting to the Ophthalmology Department.
Contribute to a total quality patient service by providing Ophthalmology services as part of Sunshine Coast Health.
Participate in the training of and supervision of junior medical staff.

Salary rates: $5,155.00 - $7,189.50 p.f., employer contribution to superannuation (up to 12.75%) and annual leave loading (17.5%) (L4 - L9, L10-L13) (temporary full-time position, 76 hrs p.f.) for up to 12 months. Applications will remain current for 12 months / or the duration of the vacancy. Applications may be used to appoint to similar vacancies for a period up to 12 months after the closing date of the initial vacancy.
