Key focus

Reporting to the Principal Practitioner, the Senior Occupational Therapist provides clinical assessment and treatment of clients with various physical, cognitive, sensory and psychosocial conditions to maximise their independence and quality of life.

Provides clinical services to patients/clients, adopts best practice approaches, provides innovative solutions and strives for continuous improvement.

As a Senior member of an Occupational Therapy team, undertakes assessments of clients, determines individual capabilities and applies professional expertise to maximise independence and quality of life.

Identifies local areas of need relating to the area of occupational therapy and opportunities to develop appropriately responsive programs for both individual and targeted groups of clients.

Contributes professional expertise to the development, monitoring and review of approved programs to enhance independence and quality of life for both individual and targeted groups of clients.

Undertakes health promotion activities relating to occupational therapy for both individual and targeted groups of clients and/or their families and staff.

Contributes to the promotion of the service to relevant groups in the local community.

Responsibilities of the role:

Your duties as an Occupational Therapist will include, but are not limited to:

Conducting comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessments and intervention sessions with clients across a range of settings, including homes, schools, workplaces, clinics and community environments, delivered face-to-face, via Telehealth, or through a combination of both where clinically appropriate.
Assessing clients' physical, cognitive, emotional, sensory, psychosocial and functional abilities within their home, school, workplace, clinic or community environments through direct observation, consultation, assessment and clinical evaluation.
Administering standardised and non-standardised assessments in accordance with professional practice standards, evidence-based practice and clinical guidelines, whether delivered face-to-face or via Telehealth where appropriate.
Preparing detailed assessment reports including, but not limited to, Functional Capacity Assessments (FCA), progress reports, therapy reports, sensory profile assessments, assistive technology assessments, home modification recommendations and reports supporting funding applications (including NDIS) and client goals.
Developing individualised, evidence-based therapy plans tailored to each client's goals, strengths, abilities and identified support needs.
Planning and delivering therapeutic interventions, individual and group therapy programs, parent/carer coaching and capacity-building strategies to improve client outcomes.
Monitoring, reviewing and adjusting therapy goals and intervention strategies based on client progress, outcomes, clinical reasoning and best-practice principles.
Providing education, guidance and training to families, carers, educators, employers, support workers and other stakeholders to promote skill development, independence, participation and functional outcomes.
Accurately documenting all assessments, consultations, therapy sessions and client interactions and maintaining compliant clinical records in accordance with professional, ethical and legislative requirements.
Identifying, documenting and reporting risks, safeguarding concerns, restrictive practices, incidents or mandatory reporting matters in accordance with applicable legislation, professional standards and Company policies.
Managing a caseload of clients efficiently, ethically and within professional scope of practice, including scheduling, service delivery, reporting and follow-up requirements.
Collaborating with Company employees, Support Coordinators, Case Managers, allied health professionals, educators, medical practitioners and other stakeholders to ensure coordinated, multidisciplinary and holistic care.
Supporting clients to develop functional skills in areas including self-care, emotional regulation, sensory processing, social participation, fine and gross motor skills, executive functioning, community access, vocational participation and activities of daily living.
Assisting clients to establish meaningful, measurable goals and working collaboratively with clients and their support networks to achieve positive functional outcomes.
Recommending, assessing and supporting the implementation of assistive technology, equipment, environmental modifications and strategies that promote independence, safety and participation.
Maintaining professional boundaries and delivering services in accordance with ethical standards, professional codes of conduct, AHPRA requirements and evidence-based practice.
Complying with all relevant legislation, NDIS Practice Standards, professional requirements, Company policies and procedures, child safety requirements and mandatory reporting obligations.
Performing any other reasonable duties as directed by the Employer that are within the scope of the Employee's qualifications, registration, training and experience.

Qualifications, skills, experience & competencies

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent studies as assessed by Occupational Therapy Australia and approved by AHPRA for registration
Current registration with AHPRA
Knowledge of best practice in private occupational therapy customer service delivery
Good written and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to liaise with managers, clinical and administration staff, service providers, and consumers
Commitment to continuing education
Experience with health promotion and marketing of occupational therapy services
Team skills
Motivation and initiative
Conflict resolution and negotiation skills
Valid driver’s licence + reliable vehicle
