Senior Waste Operations Officer

Permanent Full Time, 35 hours per week

About the role:

Play a key role in delivering high quality, sustainable waste services to the community. This role leads day to day waste operations, including contract management, customer engagement, audits, and data reporting, while supervising operational staff across facilities.

You’ll also drive the development of waste strategies and policies, provide expert advice on complex issues, and support continuous improvement across Council services. Help shape programs, manage contractors and consultants, and ensure compliance with evolving legislation and best practice.

To succeed in this role you will demonstrate the following key skills and attributes:

Relevant tertiary qualifications in Environmental/Waste Management, Environmental Science/Engineering and/or extensive job related experience in a relevant field.
A strong knowledge of the resource recovery and waste management industry (including primary industry organisations), and government policy on waste and recycling at regional, state and federal levels.
Demonstrated experience in interpreting relevant waste management legislation and solid working knowledge of the Local Government Act 1993, NSW Waste Minimisation and Management Act and Protection of the Environment Operations Act and Regulation.
Skills and experience to provide motivation, leadership and support to staff members, and to plan and coordinate activities.
Extensive ability to manage and motivate staff as members of an integrated team.
Highly developed customer service skills and extensive customer service experience
Computer literacy, excellent report writing skills and strong organisational and time management skills.
Well-developed project management skills.
Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills both written and oral and extensive ability to network and build relationships with other agencies.
Highly developed ability to interpret data and legislation, and excellent analytical and innovative problem solving skills.
Ability to administer and manage domestic and commercial waste collection contracts
Current unrestricted Class C Australian Driver’s Licence desirable.
