Draftsperson
Structural Engineering Draftsperson- Pre-Production (Timber Design for Manufacture)
The Structural Draftsperson- Pre-Production is responsible for the detailed design, engineering coordination, and documentation of timber structures for manufacture and installation. This role sits at the intersection of design, engineering, manufacturing, and construction, ensuring that timber frame and panelised building systems are accurately engineered, efficiently manufactured, and seamlessly installed on site.
The role requires strong technical drafting capability, an understanding of structural engineering principles, and close collaboration with project stakeholders including architects, engineers, builders, and internal production teams.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Engineering
· Design and engineer closed panel timber frame systems, including walls, floors, and roof structures.
· Perform wind, gravity, and seismic load calculations in accordance with relevant Australian Standards.
· Develop detailed timber framing models using hsbCAD.
· Coordinate BIM models with steel, concrete, and other structural elements.
· Prepare product design and shop drawings suitable for manufacture and construction.
Drafting & Modelling
· Produce accurate AutoCAD drawings for production, installation, and coordination.
· Develop and maintain 3D models using AlphaCAM and Autodesk Inventor (or demonstrate the ability and willingness to learn).
· Prepare CAM files for CNC machinery including (but not limited to):
o Weinmann
o Hundegger
o Randek
o Holzma
o Weeke
Manufacturing & Pre-Production
· Prepare and issue Bills of Materials (BOMs) for production and procurement.
· Optimise designs for manufacturing efficiency, including panel nesting and multi‑wall optimisation.
· Support production planning, ensuring designs align with factory capabilities and workflows.
· Assist with transport planning, including panel sizes, sequencing, and load optimisation.
Site & Installation Support
· Prepare site installation drawings and documentation.
· Assist with installation sequencing and planning to minimise site issues and rework.
· Provide technical support during installation as required.
Coordination & Communication
· Liaise with project developers, architects, engineers, consultants, and builders to resolve design and constructability issues.
· Coordinate timber designs with concrete, steel, and other structural materials.
· Participate in design reviews and value‑engineering discussions.
