About Avanti Consultants
Avanti Consultants is a Perth-based projects delivery consultancy. We are working with a Western Australian local government client to provide Superintendent services for a civil roadworks upgrade project, administered under the AS2124-1992 General Conditions of Contract. We are seeking an experienced Superintendent to deliver this engagement on our behalf.
About the Role
Acting as the Superintendent under the Construction Contract, you will independently perform all of the Superintendent's functions and duties on behalf of the client, in accordance with the AS2124-1992 General Conditions of Contract. The works under this contract include road modifications, drainage upgrades, footpath modifications, landscaping and irrigation works, various reinstatement activities, and traffic management. This is a fixed-term consultancy engagement delivered through Avanti Consultants, with potential for further engagements on other Avanti projects for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
- Chair and minute fortnightly progress meetings with the Contractor, the client and relevant subcontractors/consultants, covering safety, progress, program, quality, variations, EOT claims and technical queries.
- Supervise the proper execution and completion of the works, including checking the quality of materials and workmanship against specification and drawings.
- Liaise with, and obtain instructions from, the client before issuing directions to the Contractor under the Construction Contract.
- Assess and determine variation claims and their value; issue Variation Orders as directed by the client, and maintain a live variation register forecasting the estimated final Contract Sum.
- Assess Extension of Time (EOT) claims and associated costs, maintaining an EOT register forecasting the estimated date for Practical Completion.
- Assess costs arising from latent site conditions and Provisional Sums.
- Assess and approve Payment Claims, and issue Payment Certificates in accordance with the Contract timeframes.
- Issue the Certificate of Practical Completion and, at the conclusion of the Defects Liability Period, the Final Certificate.
- Assess liquidated damages where applicable.
- Coordinate final inspections, issue defect notices, and maintain a master defects register through the Defects Liability Period.
- Serve as the primary point of contact between the client, the Contractor, subcontractors and other stakeholders, maintaining a document control system for all correspondence, technical queries, drawing approvals and meeting minutes.
- Prepare and submit Monthly Reports to the client covering safety compliance, progress against program, quality matters, variations, EOTs, RFIs and any other issues requiring the client's attention.
About You
- Qualification in civil engineering or a related discipline (or demonstrated equivalent experience).
- Registration as a Registered Engineer (Engineers Australia or equivalent) highly regarded.
- Demonstrated experience acting as Superintendent, Superintendent's Representative, or in an equivalent contract administration role under AS2124, AS4300 or AS4122 form construction contracts.
- Experience delivering Superintendent or contract administration services on Main Roads WA (MRWA) contracts is advantageous, but not essential.
- Sound working knowledge of civil roadworks/infrastructure construction, and the ability to assess workmanship and materials against specification and drawings.
- Proven ability to independently assess and determine variation claims, Extension of Time claims and progress payment claims.
- Strong written communication skills, with experience preparing formal contract correspondence, meeting minutes and monthly reports.
- Ability to act honestly, fairly and independently of both the client and the Contractor, consistent with the Superintendent's role under the Contract.
- Current WA driver's licence and relevant site safety inductions (White Card).
