Primary objective
Lead clinicians conduct comprehensive criminogenic risk and needs assessments and deliver individual and group intervention to prisoners in the
custody of the department. They also provide professional input into appropriate management, treatment plans and Parole Board reports as
required. Additionally, they provide input into the development, delivery and evaluation of treatment programs to prisoners and provide peer
consultation, supervision, training and professional support to colleagues as required.

Context statement
Under the newly developed Rehabilitation and Reintegration (R&R) Framework the Clinical Rehabilitation team requires psychologists to support
the team of psychologists, social workers and Aboriginal Program Facilitators and to deliver offence related intensive treatment programs. There
are opportunities to support the development of new intensive programs within both the men’s and women’s spaces within the prison system.
This is an opportunity to develop your clinical skills as a psychologist within a correctional setting.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Undertake clinical assessments, including criminogenic risk and needs assessments, develop clinical formulations and appropriate treatment

plans, and write assessment and treatment reports for prisoners in the custody of NTCS.
2. Facilitate individual and/or group-based offence specific and offence related programs for prisoners as required.
3. Liaise and consult with internal and external stakeholders on issues relevant to the management of offenders to ensure coordinated case

management.
4. Provide oversight, advice and support for professional and administrative stream staff within the Clinical Rehabilitation prison based teams.
5. Apply sound theoretical knowledge and practical experience in the development, delivery and evaluation of programs and services.
6. Be an active member of a multi-disciplinary team, participate in/provide clinical supervision, peer supervision and ongoing professional

development and training.
7. Provide feedback on programs, assessments and reports as required and maintain accurate, legible and proficient client case notes, records

and statistics.
8. Carry out duties as requested by the Manager Clinical Rehabilitation.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Tertiary qualifications in psychology with unconditional registration to practice as a psychologist in Australia via Psychology Board of

Australia/AHPRA and eligibility for membership of the Australian Psychological Society, or tertiary qualifications in social work with
membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).

2. Demonstrated ability and experience in the administration and interpretation of a range of both clinical and forensic assessment tools.
3. Knowledge of current best-practice trends in offender assessment and rehabilitation, and experience in the provision of clinical services

including the delivery of group and individual interventions.
4. Demonstrated high standard of written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex issues in a succinct

manner.
5. Interpersonal skills of a high order especially the ability to communicate effectively and interact with clients at all levels including Indigenous

Australians as well as other culturally diverse groups.
6. Sound organisational skills with the ability to manage own performance and work with initiative to achieve expected outcomes; ability to

provide clinical and peer supervision/consultation.
7. Demonstrated capacity to work effectively in a busy work environment to manage a complex client caseload within a multi-disciplinary team.
8. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to support the effective

delivery of treatment programs.
Desirable
1. Post-graduate qualifications in Forensic or Clinical Psychology and/or Forensic or Clinical endorsement; OR AASW credentials as an Accredited

Supervisor or Clinical or Family Violence Social Worker.
