Primary objective
This position supports the work of the Clinical Rehabilitation team to create safer communities and reduce re-offending through the co-
facilitation of group-based offence specific and offence related programs. Manage, supervise and oversee the day-to-day work of a team
of clinicians and Aboriginal program facilitators engaged in the provision of specialised assessments, individual interventions and group
programs to address the offending behaviours of prisoners.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Manage, supervise and support a team of skilled and experienced clinicians and Aboriginal program facilitators engaged with prisoners
to address offending behaviours.
2. Conduct and oversee the provision of clinical assessments utilising psychometric instruments.
3. Contribute to the development, maintenance and revision of operational guidelines pertinent to the assessment, intervention, program
delivery, record keeping and report writing tasks of relevant staff.
4. Ensure standards of practice, knowledge and professional conduct are maintained in accordance with the Code of Conduct, Australian
Offender Program and Facilitation Standards, Guiding Principles for Corrections in Australia, Professional Registration Boards, and other
relevant bodies.
5. Liaise with Prison Management, Sentencing Authorities, Professional Bodies, and other relevant parties on matters pertaining to the
assessment of risk, treatment of offending behaviour, prisoner management regimes and treatment outcomes to ensure appropriate
standards of community safety are achieved and maintained.
6. Apply psychometric testing; interpret results; develop clinical assessment reports; design, deliver and contribute to the evaluation of
clinical interventions appropriate to the needs of the client group.
7. Maintain relevant documentation on clinical interventions, test methods and results and record relevant statistical data for analysis,
evaluations, budget papers, legislative assembly briefs and parliamentary estimates.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Tertiary qualifications in psychology with unconditional registration to practice as a psychologist in Australia via Psychology Board of
Australia/AHPRA and eligibility for membership of the Australian Psychological Society, or tertiary qualifications in social work with
membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW); and demonstrated experience providing specialised assessment
and treatment to clients in a forensic setting.
2. Demonstrated experience in providing effective leadership within a multi-disciplinary team setting operating within a secured
environment including the provision of supervision to professional and para-professional staff and to encouragement of the
professional development of staff.
3. Demonstrated understanding of contemporary theory and best practice in respect of offender programs, and an understanding of
evidence-based assessment, delivery of behaviour-change interventions, and demonstrated case management experience within a
custodial/forensic setting.
4. Demonstrated experience in staff management, including conflict resolution practices and methods to support team building, peer
support and participation, and the ability to undertake performance management tasks as required. Demonstrated experience in
managing a budget.
5. High standard of written communication skills and the ability to communicate complex issues in a succinct manner with senior
managers, service providers, clients and other relevant parties.
6. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse cultural, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds
particularly Aboriginal people.
7. Demonstrated ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries and to deal with highly sensitive and confidential information
and issues with tact and discretion.
Desirable
1. Post-graduate qualifications in Forensic or Clinical Psychology and/or Forensic or Clinical endorsement; OR AASW credentials as a
Accredited Supervisor, Clinical or Family Violence Social Worker.
2. Qualifications or formal training in Management or Leadership.

The Department of Corrections (DoC) has a Smoke Free Policy. Staff are not permitted to smoke anywhere on Departmental premises,
