Who we are & what is the role
EMRO Engineering is a family-run engineering consultancy focused on delivering practical solutions for large-scale renewable energy construction projects across Australia and New Zealand. Our work takes us onsite, remote, and everywhere in between depending on the project.
We’re growing, so we’re looking for a Bookkeeper / Administration Support team member to join us. This role is a key part of keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes — from looking after financial records through to helping the team with day-to-day admin support.
We’re looking for someone who enjoys variety in their work and can confidently work independently while keeping things organised and running smoothly behind the scenes. Previous experience in a similar bookkeeping and administration role is essential.
The role is primarily remote, with attendance at our co-working space required for a minimum of one day per week, as agreed with the Principal Engineer. We expect the role to begin at around 20–25 hours per week, with flexibility around how and when those hours are worked.
As a family-run business, we genuinely understand that people have commitments and responsibilities outside of work. Flexibility is important to us, and we aim to create working arrangements that support a healthy balance between work and everyday life.
What you’ll be doing
Duties will be varied and will include but are not limited to:
Primary:
- Processing Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Bank Reconciliations in Xero
- Providing support to the EMRO team regarding financial management in Xero, including employee onboarding, conditions and superannuation entitlements
- Preparing financial and tax schedules for the external Senior Accountant to assist with BAS, GST and other reporting requirements
- Managing employee credit cards, business accounts and other company expenditure accounts
- Assisting with the preparation and review of project performance reports, including identifying lessons learned and opportunities for improved financial efficiency
- Responding to and managing client and supplier queries across multiple communication channels
- Processing payroll, including timesheets, leave requests and superannuation payments
- Managing employee travel bookings and arrangements
- Managing employee expense claims and reimbursements
- General Administration duties
Secondary
- Providing executive support to the Principal Engineer, including diary management as required
- Attending organisational meetings and preparing meeting minutes
- Coordinating onboarding and system setup for new employees
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives — we’re a small business and value fresh ideas, so if you see an opportunity to improve something, we’d genuinely like to hear about it and see you implement it
What you’ll need
We’re looking for someone who is confident working independently, takes initiative, and is comfortable managing a varied workload in a flexible and fast-moving environment.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong experience using Xero, including Xero Payroll
- Previous bookkeeping experience
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Experience managing inter-entity and international transactions and reconciliations
- The ability to work autonomously and confidently manage responsibilities with minimal supervision
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to review and self-check work
- A proactive, practical and solution-focused approach
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
This role requires a high level of autonomy and trust. While support will always be available, we’re looking for someone who is comfortable taking ownership of their work, using initiative, and exercising sound professional judgement when required.
