Hospital Director | AES Hobart Lead a hospital. Inspire a team. Make a lasting difference.
At
Animal Emergency Australia (AEA), we're redefining what emergency veterinary care looks like.
As one of Australia's leading emergency and critical care veterinary networks, we care for thousands of pets and the people who love them every year. What truly sets us apart isn't just the hospitals we build, it's the people who bring them to life.
Our culture is built on five simple values: Kindness, Ownership, Teamwork, Transparency and Growth. They're the foundation of how we care for our patients, support each other and create an environment where people can do their best work and build meaningful careers.
We're now looking for an exceptional leader to join us as Hospital Director at AES Hobart.
This is an opportunity to lead with purpose, influence the future of emergency veterinary care in Tasmania, and create an environment where people, patients and performance can thrive.
About AES Hobart
AES Hobart is AEA's only Tasmanian hospital and a trusted provider of 24/7 emergency and critical care services.
With a dedicated team of more than 70 veterinary professionals and support staff, advanced diagnostic capabilities, and a collaborative multidisciplinary environment, AES Hobart delivers exceptional care when it matters most.
As part of the AEA network, you'll enjoy the support, resources and expertise of a national organisation while having the autonomy to lead locally and make decisions that genuinely shape your hospital's future.
Every decision you make will positively influence:
- The care provided to patients and their families.
- The wellbeing, engagement and development of your team.
- The continued success and sustainability of the hospital.
Why Hobart?
Leadership should enhance your life, not consume it.
Hobart offers an exceptional lifestyle where you can enjoy a rewarding executive career without sacrificing balance.
Imagine:
- A 10-minute commute instead of hours in traffic.
- World-class food, wine and culture on your doorstep.
- Beautiful coastlines, mountain trails and national parks.
- A welcoming community and an outstanding quality of life.
Relocation assistance is available for the right candidate.
The Opportunity
As Hospital Director/Administrator (HAD), you'll provide strategic, operational and commercial leadership across every aspect of the hospital.

Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading hospital strategy and delivering sustainable performance.
- Building and developing a high-performing multidisciplinary team.
- Creating a positive, psychologically safe and values-led culture.
- Driving financial performance with full P&L accountability.
- Ensuring operational excellence across a busy 24/7 hospital.
- Partnering with clinical leaders to continually improve patient and client outcomes.
- Maintaining strong governance, safety and compliance standards.
About You
You're an experienced leader who enjoys bringing people together, building capability and creating environments where teams can succeed.
You bring:
- Significant leadership experience within complex operational or healthcare environments.
- Strong commercial and financial capability, including P&L accountability.
- A proven ability to improve performance through people, systems and leadership.
- High emotional intelligence and the ability to lead with empathy, resilience and integrity.
- Confidence making decisions in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
Experience within veterinary or healthcare settings is highly regarded, but exceptional leadership capability is what matters most.
Why Join Animal Emergency Australia?
Joining AEA means becoming part of an organisation that's investing in the future of emergency veterinary care, and in the people who make it possible.
You'll enjoy:
- Genuine autonomy to lead your hospital.
- The support of an experienced national executive team.
- Career development and leadership growth opportunities.
- A collaborative culture built on trust, respect and continuous improvement.
- The opportunity to make a meaningful impact on patients, clients and your team every single day.

It's reflected in:
- A safe, engaged and high-performing team.
- Exceptional patient and client experiences.
- Strong and sustainable hospital performance.
- A culture where people feel valued, supported and empowered.
- A hospital that reflects AEA's values and vision for the future.
