This is a position identified for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people on the basis of a genuine occupational qualification under section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. Hunter New England Local Health District is seeking a dedicated and culturally grounded Aboriginal Health Worker (Aboriginal Liaison Officer) to join the HealthOne Quirindi team. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful and lasting impact on the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people and communities across the Liverpool Plains.

In this role, you will be a key advocate for culturally safe care, supporting Aboriginal clients to access, navigate and engage with health services in a way that respects their cultural identity, values and needs.

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Aboriginal Health Worker (Aboriginal Liaison Officer) to join the vibrant HealthOne Quirindi team. This is an exciting opportunity to deliver culturally safe, holistic, and client-centred care to Aboriginal communities across the Liverpool Plains, making a tangible difference in people’s lives every day.

In this role, you will provide advocacy, guidance, and support to Aboriginal clients, helping them access and navigate health services in a way that respects their cultural identity and needs. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams at HealthOne Quirindi, Quirindi Hospital, and Werris Creek Multi-Purpose Service, ensuring coordinated and culturally responsive care across the region.

Quirindi, known as the “nest in the hills,” offers a relaxed rural lifestyle with breathtaking landscapes, rolling green pastures, and seasonal sunflower fields. Less than an hour from Tamworth, it combines the serenity of country living with easy access to regional services. You will also have the chance to expand your skills through additional casual opportunities supporting MOICD-funded specialist outreach clinics, including Cardiology and Diabetes services delivered by visiting specialist teams. Key Responsibilities

Deliver culturally appropriate primary health care within your scope of practice and professional framework
Provide advocacy and cultural support for Aboriginal patients and their families
Assist clients to access services, attend appointments and understand care plans
Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated, client-centred care
Develop and maintain strong relationships with Aboriginal communities, organisations and stakeholders
Promote health education, prevention and early intervention strategies
Support improved health literacy and self-management for chronic and complex conditions
Contribute to service improvement initiatives aimed at closing the health gap

About the Service – HealthOne Quirindi

HealthOne Quirindi delivers an integrated model of care, combining community health and visiting specialist services to provide comprehensive and coordinated care across the Liverpool Plains.

The service focuses on:

Early identification of health risks
Prevention and early intervention
Chronic disease management
Multidisciplinary, team-based care planning

You will be supported by a collaborative network of health professionals and the broader Hunter New England Aboriginal Liaison Officer network, with structured orientation and ongoing professional support provided.

Additional Information:

To be eligible for employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport, or hold an appropriate visa that allows you to live and work in Australia. Employment of a temporary visa holder will only be offered in line with the conditions and expiry date of your visa.
