Disability Support Worker (Supported Independent Living – Parkinson's Support)

Location: Langwarrin, VIC

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Disability Support Worker to join our Supported Independent Living (SIL) team in Langwarrin, supporting a participant living with Parkinson's disease.

This is a high-responsibility role supporting a participant with complex mobility needs and a high risk of falls. You will work as part of a consistent, well-trained team providing structured, hands-on support that promotes independence while ensuring safety and dignity. Success in this role requires calm decision-making, close adherence to care plans, and a proactive approach to monitoring and responding to changes in the participant's wellbeing.

The participant enjoys maintaining their independence, spending time with their dog, watching sport, and accessing the community. Building a positive, respectful relationship while supporting participation in meaningful activities is an important part of this role.

What Your Shift Will Involve

As a Disability Support Worker, you will be responsible for delivering safe, person-centred support, including:

Providing personal care, including hygiene, grooming, dressing, and assistance with activities of daily living
Assisting with mobility, transfers, and safe manual handling
Supporting the participant to maintain independence and established daily routines
Monitoring wellbeing and promptly escalating any changes or concerns
Following detailed care plans, falls prevention strategies, risk management plans, and escalation procedures at all times
Assisting with meal preparation, cooking, cleaning, laundry, and other household tasks
Supporting community access and meaningful participation in activities
Completing accurate and timely documentation during and after each shift
Working collaboratively with a consistent multidisciplinary support team
Maintaining the participant's dignity, choice, safety, and quality of life at all times

Essential Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability), Disability, Aged Care, or an equivalent qualification
Experience providing personal care, mobility assistance, transfers, and meal assistance
Demonstrated competency in safe manual handling techniques
Strong understanding of care plans, scope of practice, and escalation procedures
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Current NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willingness to obtain)
Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
Full Australian working rights

Desirable Experience

The following experience will be highly regarded:

Experience supporting participants living with Parkinson's disease or other neurological conditions
Experience working in Supported Independent Living (SIL)
Experience supporting participants with high falls risk and complex mobility needs
