The City Strategy and Urban Planning Branch is a team of 38 people that provide the long-term strategic direction that shapes the City of Melbourne’s future. Through research, foresight and strategic urban planning, the branch guides sustainable growth, manages city change and helps deliver the City of Melbourne’s long-term vision.

As part of our new operating model, we are building a team of talented professionals who are passionate about city shaping, evidence-based decision making and creating positive outcomes for City of Melbourne's communities.

About the Role

As a Strategic Planning Officer, you will support the development of strategic urban planning initiatives that help shape Melbourne’s future. Through research, analysis and project coordination, you will contribute to land use strategies, planning policy and place-based projects that support the City of Melbourne’s Vision 2050. Working within a collaborative team, you will help deliver evidence-based, integrated and future-focused planning outcomes that enhance the city’s liveability, sustainability and inclusiveness.

A Little More About the Role

Support the delivery of strategic urban planning projects and initiatives, contributing to the long-term planning and development of Melbourne in line with Vision 2050.
Undertake research and analysis on planning, land use and city-shaping issues, helping to inform evidence-based strategies, policies and planning decisions.
Contribute to the development of integrated planning frameworks, including land use strategies, structure plans and policy initiatives that respond to the city's evolving needs.
Collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders across Council and the community, supporting consultation, coordination and integrated planning outcomes.
Develop high-quality planning outputs and project documentation, applying strategic planning frameworks and building your expertise in contemporary city planning and policy development.

About You

You are an early career strategic planner with:

Relevant tertiary qualification in urban planning or a related discipline
Foundational understanding of urban planning principles and land use systems
Demonstrated interest in strategic planning, policy and place-based work, with the ability to undertake research and analyse data, and trends.
Strong written and verbal communication skills coupled with the ability to prepare clear and accurate documentation
Strong collaborative skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams while building positive stakeholder relationships and delivering high-quality customer-focused outcomes.
