SPECTRUM
Spectrum specialises in personality disorder and complex trauma. Spectrum is a centre of clinical excellence for personality disorders and the statewide specialist personality disorder service for Victoria, funded by the Department of Health and provided by Eastern Health.
Spectrum provides direct clinical care for people with complex and or severe personality disorder, secondary consultations and second opinions for clinicians working with people experiencing complex trauma or personality disorders and workforce development opportunities. Underpinning these areas are Spectrum’s research, innovation and evaluation activities. Spectrum provides leadership and advocacy for appropriate access to evidence based healthcare and other supports for individuals and their carers living with personality disorder across Australia.

About the role
The position is based in Richmond within a statewide service specialising in personality disorder and complex trauma.
The Senior Lived Experience (Consumer) Peer Worker - Level 4 is a senior lived experience role that provides advanced peer support and specialist lived experience expertise to consumers, multidisciplinary teams and the broader service in the field of personality disorder and complex trauma.
Working with a high level of autonomy, the role contributes to recovery-oriented practice, service improvement, co-design activities, and the promotion of contemporary lived experience perspectives. While not a formal leadership position, the role is expected to model high-quality peer practice, contribute to team learning, and support the development of lived experience initiatives across the service.
About you
To be successful in this role you will possess:
Essential
Lived experience as a person with a living with experiences associated with personality disorder.
Lived experience accessing treatment and support within the public mental health system (preferably including community, inpatient and emergency settings).
Demonstrated ability to intentionally and safely use lived experience to build connection, foster hope, support recovery, and contribute to positive outcomes for consumers.
Minimum two years’ experience working in a paid lived experience peer support role.
Experience contributing to service improvement, co-design, evaluation, education, or system improvement activities.
Demonstrated capacity to model effective peer practice and positively influence the development of lived experience practice within teams.
Demonstrated understanding of recovery oriented, trauma‑informed and strengths‑based practice.
Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and manage a varied workload while maintaining high-quality peer practice.
Demonstrated ability to navigate complex situations while maintaining peer role integrity, professional boundaries and ethical practice.
Ability to build effective working relationships across disciplines while maintaining peer role integrity and promoting the distinct contribution of lived experience practice.
Ability to maintain peer role integrity while engaging constructively in supervision and performance development processes.
Demonstrated commitment to reflective practice, supervision, and ongoing professional development.
Demonstrated ability to provide specialist lived experience advice that informs service improvement program improvement and recovery-orientated practice in collaboration with management and multidisciplinary teams.
Strong collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated commitment to culturally safe and inclusive practice, in line with organisational policies and community expectations.
Understanding the impact of diversity, intersectionality, and social determinants on people's experiences of mental health and recovery.
Demonstrated ability to represent lived experience perspectives in meetings, forums, consultations, presentations and service improvement activities with appropriate preparation and organisational approval.
Ability to organise work autonomously while meeting agreed timelines and management expectations.
Basic computer literacy.
Completion of Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work, IPS (Basic Training), or equivalent lived experience workforce qualification and/or experience recognised as equivalent.
Satisfactory police check.
Desirable
Completion of, or commitment to undertake, IPS (advanced Training) or Consumer Supervision training.
Experience providing informal peer mentoring, practice guidance or support to less experienced peer workers.
Knowledge of relevant legislation and frameworks including the Mental Health Act and recovery-oriented practice frameworks.
Current Victorian Driver’s Licence, as occasional statewide travel may be required.
Highly developed interpersonal, relationship-building and influencing skills
A strong commitment to recovery-oriented, trauma-informed and person-centered practice
The ability to work as part of a diverse team
Excellent communication and organisational skills
Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.
Those that are offered and/or start between January and April do not require an up to date vaccination for Influenza to progress providing they are aware of its requirement later in the year. Those that are offered and/or start between May and December require the up to date Influenza vaccination prior to offer.
