About the role

Are you passionate about improving community health, wellbeing and equity outcomes?
Merri-bek City Council is seeking a Community Health and Wellbeing Lead to help drive innovative, evidence-informed health promotion, prevention and wellbeing initiatives across the municipality.

In this role, you’ll work collaboratively across Council, health services, community organisations and government agencies to support the delivery of Merri-bek’s health and wellbeing priorities, including the Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan (MPHWP).

You’ll play a key role in strategic planning, partnership development, policy coordination and project delivery that supports healthier, safer and more connected communities. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to meaningful community outcomes while working in a collaborative and values-driven environment.

Key responsibilities

Support the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of Council’s Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan
Lead and coordinate health promotion and prevention initiatives across priority areas including mental health, youth wellbeing, gambling harm prevention and vaping prevention
Develop health profiles, population health scans, reports and evidence-based strategic advice
Work collaboratively with internal teams, community organisations, hospitals and government stakeholders
Coordinate stakeholder engagement, partnerships and regional collaboration opportunities
Prepare reports, briefings and updates for management and Council
Support grant applications, funding opportunities and partnership initiatives
Facilitate community engagement activities and collaborative planning processes

Skills and experience require to perform the role

Tertiary qualifications in Public Health, Community Development or a related field
Experience in health promotion, prevention, strategic planning or wellbeing program deliver
Strong stakeholder engagement and partnership-building skills
Demonstrated understanding of equity, inclusion and community wellbeing principles
Strong research, analytical and project management capabilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams and sectors
Current Working With Children Check and ability to obtain a satisfactory Police Check
