Pacho Taqueria | Prahran Market

Pacho is a small independent taqueria inside Prahran Market, built around authentic Mexican street food, clean systems, sharp execution, and calm service.

We are looking for a Part-Time Commis Chef to join our kitchen team.

This is a junior role, but it is not an entry-level position. We are looking for someone with real kitchen experience, solid fundamentals, and the maturity to work in a small, high-standard environment.

The right person may not be a senior chef yet, but they should already understand what good service looks like: organised prep, clean mise en place, calm communication, consistency under pressure, and pride in the details.

Small kitchen. High standards. Calm service.

About the role

You will support the kitchen across prep, service, cleaning, basic cooking tasks, and station work.

Training will be structured and practical: one station at a time. As you show consistency, reliability, and ownership, there will be room to grow into a more senior role within the business.

This role suits someone who wants to build proper kitchen discipline, not just pick up casual hours.

What we are looking for?

We are looking for someone who:

Has previous experience in a café, restaurant, market kitchen, taqueria, or similar food service environment
Can work cleanly, quickly, and calmly
Understands prep, service, clean-down, and basic kitchen systems
Takes feedback professionally and applies it quickly
Has strong personal hygiene and presentation standards
Is reliable with time, communication, and availability
Can support a small team without ego or drama
Wants to grow into more responsibility over time

You do not need to know Mexican food already, but you do need to care about doing things properly.

Hiring process

Our hiring process is simple and structured:

Short chat / interview
We discuss your experience, availability, expectations, and fit.
Two-hour practical trial
You will work hands-on in the kitchen, one station at a time. We look at attitude, cleanliness, speed, communication, and basic kitchen instincts.
Full paid shiftIf the first two stages go well, we organise a full paid shift so both sides can properly assess the fit.We value people who are prepared, punctual, clean, and professional.
