Join the Victorian Electoral Commission as a Research Advisor, Representation Reviews and contribute to a major program of ward boundary reviews ahead of the 2028 council elections. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will undertake research and analysis, prepare advice and publications, and support evidence-based decisions that help ensure fair and equitable representation for Victorian communities.

About this opportunity

Reporting directly to the Research Manager, Representation Reviews, a team of research and report writing specialists is being established to provide the research function within the ward boundary review program team. This fixed-term program team will complete ward boundary reviews before the 2028 council elections. Ward boundary reviews are carried out under the Local Government Act 2020 and aim to maintain fair and equitable representation for voters, consistent with legislative principles and good practice for representative democracies.

About the team

The Electoral Representation Team leads the VEC's support and delivery of state and local government representation reviews, including support for internal and external review panels. During representation review events, an expanded team is established to deliver review programs.

The Research Team will work closely with the program's Geospatial and Public Consultation teams to deliver the upcoming ward boundary review program and provide high-quality advice and support to the ward boundary review panel.

A day in the life of a Research Advisor

As a member of the ward boundary review Research Team, you will partner with members of the Geospatial Team to carry out research and analysis for your assigned councils.

You will prepare and deliver advice and information for consideration by the review panel and program leadership, prepare publications, deliver presentations to the panel and, where required, present at public information sessions.

You will work within set standards that support you to meet the short timelines of the review program.

About you

Demonstrated experience carrying out research, analysis and synthesis of information, and preparing advice and information that supports well-informed decision making.
Excellent communication skills, with demonstrated experience preparing and communicating complex information through clear and concise written documents and presentations.
Producing accurate and timely work that contributes to team objectives.
Working collaboratively with others and communicating clearly and professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
Responding quickly to changing priorities and managing competing demands during peak periods.
Working respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds and contributing to a safe, inclusive, and productive workplace.
