About this opportunity
Reporting directly to Manager, Policy and Legislation, the Advisor, Policy (Advisor Policy and Legal) supports the VEC's Electoral Integrity Portfolio by contributing to electoral integrity, policy, legislative and regulatory work. The role focuses on strengthening electoral integrity and supporting the VEC's objectives through briefings, advice, policy development, stakeholder engagement, guidance, assurance and operational support.
About the team
The Electoral Integrity Branch is responsible for strengthening electoral integrity across the VEC and Victoria's electoral processes. The branch leads legislative reform, coordinates Parliamentary reports and submissions, develops internal policy and provides regulatory advice to the organisation.
A day in the life of an Advisor, Policy (Advisor Policy and Legal)
You will support the Electoral Integrity Branch in providing regulatory advice to other business areas of the VEC. This includes reviewing policy products, responding to electoral integrity matters and support policy design. The role will also provide support to the development and drafting of legislative instruments, engaging in legislative reform and implementation work, assisting the preparation of submissions and reports to Parliament, and conducting research to support these matters.
During busy, time-critical periods of elections, the role will also provide support to the VEC's Regulatory Advice and Incidents Desk to support the organisation to access timely advice on regulatory or legislative matters.
About you
- Great written, verbal and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to prepare clear and concise advice, build productive stakeholder relationships and communicate complex issues to diverse audiences
- Ability to analyse, develop and implement policy, providing strategic advice and innovative solutions to complex public policy issues.
- Ability to understand and apply research, legislation, standards and operational reports, and consolidate findings into practical, evidence-based recommendations.
- Ability to support multiple projects and priorities, coordinate work to meet deadlines, monitor progress and contribute effectively to broader organisational objectives.
