About this opportunity
As a Democracy Ambassador, this role exists to strengthen electoral participation by building awareness, understanding and trust in the electoral process across diverse and underrepresented communities.
Our Democracy Ambassador roles are Casual in nature and suit a variety of people who value flexibility to their work. As we head towards the State Election 2026 we are recruiting for multiple dedicated individuals who are available to participate in paid training (3 days) during July with a view to their first shifts and sessions taking place soon after.
You may not have done this work previously and that's ok, we welcome individuals who hold a strong interest to apply to find out more - it's a rewarding role and training is provided for this reason!
Our application form allows respondents to indicate their availability in days and hours for us to review and consider as part of your application. New VEC ambassadors will be partnered with a coordinator or experienced VEC employee in our Public Engagement team to fully support them in the work.
About the team
The Public Engagement team supports the VEC's goal of inclusive democratic participation by delivering education, outreach and engagement initiatives across Victoria. The team works closely with communities, organisations and stakeholders to ensure all Victorians have access to clear and accessible electoral information.
A day in the life of a Democracy Ambassador
No two days-or sessions-are the same as a Democracy Ambassador. You'll work with a diverse range of communities across Victoria, each with unique experiences, perspectives and barriers to participation. From culturally and linguistically diverse groups to young voters and underrepresented communities, you'll play an important role in creating inclusive, respectful and engaging spaces where people can build confidence in understanding and participating in the democratic process.
You'll adapt your approach to meet people where they are, responding to different community needs and helping ensure every voice has the opportunity to be heard.
- Engaging diverse communities to raise awareness about the electoral process and the importance of voting
- Delivering educational workshops, forums, and information sessions to support community needs
- Developing and distributing accessible materials and resources to support and inform voter knowledge
- Visiting communities in person and building strong relationships with local organisations, schools, and community leaders
- Collecting community feedback on engagement strategies and relaying insights to the Democracy Ambassador Coordinator
About you
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage people from diverse backgrounds
- Demonstrated interest in community engagement, civic participation or advocacy
- Ability to deliver presentations, workshops or community information sessions
- Builds effective relationships with community groups, organisations and stakeholders
- Adapts to changing priorities and works flexibly across different locations and settings
- Brings lived experience and a commitment to inclusion, helping build trust within communities
