About our School:
Walcom Ngarrwa Secondary College opened in Werribee in January 2024. On opening Walcom Ngarrwa, welcomed 177 Year 7 students to the school community. Over the coming years, the school will add a new year level every year through until 2029, when we will have students from Year 7-12.

In 2026, Walcom Ngarrwa commenced the school year with 680 students across Year 7-9. Four percent of our students identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and 32 percent of students have English as an additional language. Our staff team comprised 1 Principal, 2 Deputy Principals, 2 Assistant Principal, 4 Leading Teachers, 4 Learning Specialists, 50 Classroom Teachers, 3 Para Professionals, and 20 Education Support Staff.
In 2025 our Student Family Occupation Index was 0.5639 and our Student Family Occupation & Education Index was 0.4456.
During 2025 the College undertook their first School Review, resulting in the endorsement and publication of our first Strategic Plan (2025-2029). Stage 1 state of the art educational facilities are now complete and includes:
The Red Giant - our amazing two storey Science and Technology building - with dedicated labs, materials and digital technology
The Nexus - our Learning Neighbourhood - featuring 9 general classrooms, multiple presentation and seminar spaces and an array of quiet and small group collaborative areas.
The Pavilion - our Community Hub that features 1 indoor basketball court, music and media spaces and a 100 seat auditorium.
Outside - we have extensive outdoor basketball courts as well as manicured landscaping that allows for multipurpose outdoor learning experiences.
Stage 2 building works have commenced and are due for completion by the start of the 2027 school year. This will include an additional Learning Neighbourhood, Administrative Building that includes admin, library and wellbeing spaces, and school playing field.

This position is a fulltime position, working 8:00am to 4:00pm during the school term, including a 30 minute, unpaid lunch break. There are no requirements for work during the school term holidays.
An education support class position at this range will perform tasks that are carried out in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice, and school policy under supervision and direction. This may include coordination of other education support class staff within the work area or educational program.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of a teacher as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students can be required individually or in groups up to 4 in controlled circumstances and where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
Certification and/or qualifications of up to three years can be required at this level (noting that Registered Nurse is not included at this level, the first level for which is Level 1 range 3).
A role at this range may include:

Specific support tasks to achieve outcomes. Typically, this will involve accountability for a single function, (e.g. ensuring data is properly maintained) or the co-ordination of a work area under the direction of the principal or a manager.

Assisting teachers, within an educational program, by undertaking specific support tasks or the coordination of the support function.
-
Supervised health and wellbeing support tasks, medical intervention support tasks, or other specialised student/teacher support roles (e.g. enrolled nurses performing the role as described in schedule 3). These roles require specific qualifications and/or training, including roles where further training must be undertaken from time to time. The role is for a specific purpose, for which there will be direct accountability as opposed to support roles that are carried out by a range of staff performing routine tasks under direction.

Technical tasks that require a sound knowledge of basic technical and/or scientific principles that are used to develop and adapt work methods and make judgements where there are clear guidelines and limited options. Routine technical support in libraries, science, and information technology would be typical examples.
An education support class position at this range commencing at the base will initially be limited to undertaking routine tasks that are carried out under close supervision and direction. Work that carries some degree of independence will generally involve a limited number of tasks performed on a regular basis where priorities are clear, procedures are well established, and direction is readily available. Subject to any specific qualification and/or training requirement, an education support class employee employed in this range may be progressively required to undertake coordination, specialised student/teacher support tasks, or technical tasks as experience in the role is gained.
Primary Purpose of the Role
The Literacy Support Instructor will utilise MacqLit or other evidence-based intervention programs designed for middle-years students who are performing in the bottom 30% of their cohort. The goal is to deliver explicit, systematic, and small-group reading instruction to students who are struggling with literacy. The goal is to improve their reading accuracy, fluency, and comprehension to allow them to fully access the school curriculum.
Key Responsibilities
1. Program Delivery & Instruction

Deliver structured, fast-paced 30-minute lessons in a small group setting.

Facilitate lessons 2 to 3 times per week over an approximately 20 week cycle.

Guide students through deliberate practice activities and literacy skill based activities in line with MacqLit or other evidence based program requirements.
2. Student Assessment & Monitoring

Conduct pre- and post-testing using standardized and MacqLit diagnostic tools.

Track and monitor student data, to provide instant feedback and adapt lessons to individual learning needs.

Utilize formative assessment and the technology tools to document growth.
3. Collaboration & Communication

Communicate student progress with classroom teachers to ensure the skills learned in MacqLit transfer to the regular classroom.

Work closely with the school's Director of English to manage timetables and resources.
