Are you an experienced International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBLC) and midwifery leader with a passion for improving lactation and infant feeding outcomes across a large and diverse health district? South Western Sydney Local Health District is seeking an innovative and highly motivated. Clinical Midwife Consultant Grade 3 – Lactation and Infant Feeding to provide strategic clinical leadership and expert consultancy across maternity and neonatal services. This district-wide role will lead the development, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based lactation and infant feeding initiatives, supporting excellence in care for women, babies and families.

Join the South Western Sydney Local Health District Women’s Health Clinical Stream and provide strategic leadership to strengthen lactation and infant feeding outcomes for women, babies and families across one of NSW’s largest and most diverse health districts.
Work collaboratively across the Women’s Health Clinical Stream to support district-wide projects, strategic priorities, policy review/writing and service improvement initiatives that strengthen care across the entire midwifery and women’s health continuum, from preconception and pregnancy through to postnatal, infant feeding and broader women’s health services.
Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based lactation and infant feeding initiatives that improve quality, safety and the experience of care across maternity and neonatal services.
Collaborate with maternity, neonatal and child and family health teams, consumers and external partners to develop innovative models of care and drive service improvement at a district-wide level. Contribute to research, policy development, strategic planning and quality improvement initiatives that shape the future of women’s health, breastfeeding and infant feeding services across SWSLHD.
Influence clinical practice through education, mentoring and workforce development, supporting clinicians to deliver contemporary, evidence-based care across the maternity continuum.

Are You the Right Fit?
The ideal candidate is a highly experienced IBLC and respected midwifery leader who is passionate about improving outcomes for women, babies and families through excellence in lactation and infant feeding care. Key attributes include:

Advanced clinical expertise in lactation, infant feeding and contemporary maternity care practice.
Demonstrated experience leading service development, quality improvement and the implementation of evidence-based practice across complex healthcare environments.
Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build effective partnerships across multidisciplinary teams and services.
A commitment to education, mentoring and workforce capability development, supporting clinicians to grow their knowledge, confidence and skills.
Experience using data, research and evaluation to inform decision-making, influence practice and drive measurable improvements in care. The ability to think strategically, manage competing priorities and provide professional leadership across multiple sites and services.

Selection Criteria
To help us assess your suitability for the role, please tell us as much as you can about yourself in response to the questions below.

Current Authority to Practice as a Midwife with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). At least 7 years full time equivalent post registration experience, with at least 5 years full time equivalent experience in the specialty field. In addition, the employee must have approved postgraduate nursing/midwifery qualifications relevant to the field in which the employee is appointed, or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the public hospital or public health organisation.
Describe your experience providing clinical leadership in lactation and infant feeding services across maternity, neonatal or child and family health settings. Please include examples of how you have influenced clinical practice, supported complex infant feeding issues and improved outcomes for women, babies and families.
Describe a service improvement, model of care, policy or practice change that you have led or significantly contributed to. Please outline your approach to stakeholder engagement, implementation, overcoming challenges and evaluating outcomes.
Describe your experience developing the capability of nurses, midwives or multidisciplinary teams through education, mentoring and professional support. Please provide an example of how you identified a workforce need and the impact your education or mentoring strategy had on clinical practice.
Describe how you have used evidence, research, clinical audit or data to influence decision-making and improve lactation, infant feeding or maternity care services. Please include how you translated evidence into practice and the outcomes achieved for consumers, staff or the service.
