Full Job Description

Position Purpose

The Process Technician is responsible for the safe operation, monitoring, optimisation, troubleshooting, and maintenance support of specialised hazardous waste treatment and resource recovery processes.

The role supports the operation of processing equipment including the Mercury Conversion Unit (MCU) and associated treatment systems, ensuring that operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved procedures, environmental licence conditions, quality requirements, and workplace health and safety obligations.

The Process Technician plays a key role in process performance, product quality, regulatory compliance, equipment reliability, and continuous improvement initiatives across hazardous waste and resource recovery operations.

Key Responsibilities

Process Operations

Safely operate processing equipment and associated plant in accordance with approved operating procedures.
Conduct start-up, shutdown, commissioning, and operational activities for processing systems.
Monitor process performance and make operational adjustments to optimise efficiency, throughput, and product quality.
Maintain accurate operational records and shift logs.
Assist in the implementation of process improvements and operational optimisation initiatives.

Plant Monitoring and Inspection

Conduct routine inspections of plant, equipment, instrumentation, and process systems.
Monitor operating parameters including temperatures, pressures, flow rates, emissions controls, and process outputs.
Identify abnormal operating conditions and implement corrective actions where appropriate.
Collect and record process performance data.

Sampling and Quality Control

Conduct routine sampling activities in accordance with approved procedures.
Assist with product quality verification and process validation activities.
Maintain accurate sampling and testing records.
Report quality issues and process deviations.

Equipment Maintenance Support

Assist maintenance personnel with equipment inspections, shutdowns, repairs, and preventative maintenance activities.
Identify equipment defects and initiate maintenance requests.
Support commissioning and recommissioning activities following maintenance works.
Assist with equipment testing and operational verification.

Process Troubleshooting

Investigate process abnormalities and operational issues.
Assist in diagnosing equipment faults and process inefficiencies.
Escalate technical issues to supervisors and technical specialists where required.
Participate in root cause investigations and corrective action implementation.

Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance

Operate all plant and equipment in accordance with:
Work Health and Safety legislation;
Dangerous Goods requirements;
Environmental licence conditions;
Company procedures and safe work instructions.
Participate in risk assessments, toolbox talks, and safety meetings.
Identify hazards and report incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
Support emergency response activities when required.

Documentation and Reporting

Complete operational logs, inspection records, maintenance notifications, and production reports.
Maintain accurate records to support regulatory compliance and operational performance monitoring.
Report safety, environmental, quality, and operational issues promptly.

Qualifications

Essential

Diploma or Advanced Diploma in a technical, engineering, process operations, manufacturing, environmental, or related discipline; or
Equivalent combination of vocational qualifications, training, and relevant industry experience.

Desirable

Dangerous Goods training.
Hazardous waste management training.
Process plant operations experience.
Forklift licence.
First Aid qualification.
Confined Space and Working at Heights training.

Experience

Essential

Experience operating industrial equipment, processing systems, manufacturing plant, treatment facilities, or similar technical operations.
Experience following documented procedures and operating instructions.
Experience maintaining operational records and reports.

Desirable

Hazardous waste treatment experience.
Mercury treatment experience.
Battery recycling or resource recovery experience.
Commissioning and start-up experience.
Environmental compliance experience.

Pay: $80,000.00 – $95,000.00 per year
