South Western Sydney Local Health District is seeking an experienced and strategic finance leader to play a pivotal role in supporting the growth and sustainability of clinical trials across the District. This role will lead the financial management of clinical trial activities, partnering with investigators, the Clinical Trials Support Unit (CTSU), sponsors, CROs and external stakeholders to develop trial budgets, negotiate contracts and ensure financially viable study delivery. Providing expert advice on feasibility, financial risk and funding opportunities, the successful candidate will drive revenue optimisation, cost recovery strategies and process improvements to strengthen financial performance. The position has end-to-end responsibility for forecasting, reporting, invoicing and financial reconciliation, while also contributing to key organisational initiatives including implementation of the National Clinical Trials Governance Framework, audit readiness and policy development. Leading a specialist clinical trials finance team, this role offers the opportunity to influence strategic decision-making, build strong stakeholder relationships and help shape the future of clinical research within one of Australia's largest and most diverse health districts.

Are You the Right Fit?
The ideal candidate is a commercially astute and strategic finance professional with demonstrated experience in budget modelling, contract negotiation and financial risk assessment, ideally within a clinical trials, healthcare, research or similarly complex regulated environment. You will be highly skilled in translating complex financial information into clear, actionable insights that support informed decision-making by both financial and non-financial stakeholders. With strong experience in revenue cycle management, cost recovery frameworks and financial performance monitoring, you will leverage data analytics, forecasting and reporting tools to drive sustainable outcomes and identify opportunities for continuous improvement. Your ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with clinicians, executives, sponsors and external partners will be key to your success, as will your proven leadership capability in developing high-performing teams, setting direction and fostering a culture of accountability and collaboration. A strong understanding of governance, compliance and audit requirements is essential, together with a proactive, adaptable and solutions-focused mindset that enables you to navigate complexity and deliver innovative, sustainable financial outcomes.

Selection Criteria
To help us assess your suitability for the role, please tell us as much as you can about yourself in response to the questions below.

Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field and/or demonstrated equivalent extensive experience in a health care setting.
Proven experience in developing, reviewing and negotiating clinical trial budgets and financial terms with external stakeholders.
Demonstrated analytical and reporting capability, including the ability to prepare accurate financial forecasts, impact assessments, dashboards, variance analysis and financial summaries, using multiple systems (including CTMS).
Strong knowledge of financial governance, compliance, revenue management, invoicing, reconciliation and cost-recovery principles.
Demonstrated leadership and people management experience, including supervision, training, performance management and capability uplift of finance or operational staff.
Highly developed communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate financial concepts for clinical, operational and executive audiences.
Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage competing priorities and meet strict deadlines while maintaining accuracy, attention to detail and high standards of financial integrity.
Commitment to continuous improvement, innovation and alignment with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), NSW Health policies, NCTGF requirements and organisational governance frameworks.
