Full Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Coordinator Waste Services to lead the delivery and management of Glenorchy City Council's waste services. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the effective operation of Council's kerbside garbage, recycling and FOGO services, public litter bin program, bin delivery and maintenance services, and the Jackson Street Waste Management Centre (JSWMC).

As the Coordinator Waste Services, you will be responsible for managing waste service contracts, coordinating operational programs, leading a dedicated team, overseeing budgets and compliance obligations, and driving strategic waste management initiatives that support a sustainable and connected community.

Working collaboratively across Council, with contractors, regulators and the community, you will help ensure waste services are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with Council's strategic objectives.

What you'll bring:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Relevant tertiary qualifications (Advanced Diploma, Bachelor's Degree or higher) and/or extensive relevant experience in waste management, environmental management or a related field.
Demonstrated experience in the delivery and management of kerbside waste, recycling and FOGO services.
Experience in the operation or management of a landfill, waste transfer station or similar waste management facility.
Strong leadership experience, including managing, developing and supporting staff to achieve high levels of performance and customer service.
Experience managing contractors, service agreements, projects and budgets.
Highly developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels.
Proven ability to prepare high-quality reports, business cases and presentations.
Strong organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
Knowledge of environmental management principles, waste strategies and relevant legislation.
Commitment to workplace health and safety and continuous improvement.

Desirable

Qualification and/or experience in Workplace Health and Safety.
Local Government experience.
Understanding of waste management and environmental issues relevant to Southern Tasmania.
Experience in recycling, resource recovery and waste avoidance initiatives.
Current Driver Licence.

Position details:

Permanent, full-time position (76 hours per fortnight)
Annual Salary: $115,000 - $132,000 plus superannuation
