This is an Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander identified position which is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.

The Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) was established in a critical act of self-determination over 50 years ago as part of the Aboriginal rights protest movement. We provide high-quality, culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT, and fight for social justice and equity for our communities.

Your Impact:
As a valued member of the Criminal Law Practice, you’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality, culturally appropriate legal support to Aboriginal clients. You’ll keep the practice running smoothly through effective administration, client support and coordination with solicitors, courts and key stakeholders. Each day, you will:

Coordinate client files, court rosters, CMS data entry, records and administrative tasks to support timely case management.
Liaise with Police, courts, solicitors, Corrective Services and other stakeholders to support effective communication and service delivery.
Manage reception, phone enquiries, correspondence, document preparation and secretarial support for Criminal Law Solicitors.
Maintain professional office operations, including equipment, records, communications and a welcoming environment for clients.
Provide culturally appropriate client support, referrals and assistance with non-court matters, including the fortnightly civil clinic.
Work collaboratively and ethically, respecting Aboriginal cultural practices and complying with ALS policies, WHS requirements and service standards.

Be a proud Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, recognised by your community.
Commitment to social justice and the ability to work in a culturally safe, respectful and appropriate manner.
Strong computer literacy across Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Outlook, with accurate typing skills of at least 35 wpm.
Excellent communication and telephone skills, including experience operating a small to medium switchboard.
Highly organised with strong time management, multitasking, problem-solving and administrative skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality, work independently with limited supervision and contribute effectively within a team.
