About Us

Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission.

Collectively, Victoria's Supreme, County, Magistrates', Children's, and Coroners courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the Judicial College of Victoria, the Judicial Commission of Victoria, and Court Services Victoria (CSV) are referred to as the `Courts Group'.

Our people enable the Courts Group to deliver on each jurisdiction's own strategic priorities while also pursuing strategic opportunities that are interconnected and deliver benefits more broadly.

The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The MCV determines in excess of 200,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, dealing with over 90 percent of all adult cases that come before Victorian courts each year.

MCV aims to be an innovative, accessible and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.

About the Role

Be part of a specialist court team at the forefront of Victoria's response to family violence. As a Family Violence Respondent Practitioner, you'll work directly within the court system to influence behaviour, support safer outcomes, and help hold perpetrators accountable-while contributing to the protection of women and children.

This is a dynamic, frontline role within the family violence jurisdiction of the Magistrates' Court. You'll collaborate closely with registrars, police prosecutors, legal professionals, and support services to deliver a coordinated, effective response to family violence.

Your work will directly shape court decision-making, strengthen referral pathways, and ensure respondents are connected to programs that address behaviour and reduce risk.

Key responsibilities:

Conduct court-ordered risk assessments (MARAM-aligned) and develop referral pathways for respondents
Promote accountability and behaviour change through targeted engagement
Provide timely, expert advice to Magistrates on respondent risk and available services
Navigate complex situations, including crisis intervention and case coordination
Build strong partnerships with community and support services to ensure effective referrals
Maintain accurate records and contribute to data reporting and continuous improvement
Represent the Court in stakeholder forums and support sector education initiatives

About You

Proven experience delivering support, crisis intervention, risk assessment, and case coordination, with sound knowledge of the Family Violence Protection Act 2008, MARAM framework, and Victoria Police Code of Practice.
Solid understanding of the complex factors that elevate family violence risk, including housing and homelessness, legal and financial issues, AOD, mental health, and cognitive impairment.
Demonstrated commitment to inclusive practice, with an awareness of intersectionality when working with Aboriginal, CALD, LGBTIQ+, and other diverse communities (desirable).
Relevant tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology, social sciences, or a related discipline are highly desirable, alongside strong experience within the family violence service system.
