About us

Formed in 1917, The Queen Elizabeth Centre (QEC) is Victoria’s largest provider of Residential, Community and Home-based early parenting services for families with children from birth to four years of age.

With our Residential Early Parenting Centre in Noble Park and Community home-based services across Victoria, we play a special role in providing parenting education and support to thousands of families every year to give their children the best start in life. The role

We are keen to hear from Maternal Child Health Nurse professionals with a passion for the work we do. You will provide specialised support, care and education to enhance families' parenting competencies. You will be responsible for improving parents' knowledge, skills and attitudes as well as build the ability of parents to meet their children's health, safety and developmental needs.

The MCH Nurse EPC Development program is a 24-week program offered to Maternal and Child Health nurses (Victorian registration) who are interested in engaging in a varied and dynamic learning program. The MCH Nurse EPC Development Program offers rotations over four clinical programs offered at QEC: Five-day Residential (including Telehealth) program, Day Stay, Residential Parenting Assessment and Skills Development Service (PASDS), and Assessment and Intake.

The program involves active participation by the participant engaging in learning, reflective practice and supervision. The participant must set goals for each rotation and work towards achieving these goals in partnership with their clinical mentor. The participant is required to share their Maternal and Child Health nursing experience with QEC Clinicians. At the end of the program the participant is expected to participate in an evaluation process to assist in continual quality improvement.

About you

To be considered for this role you will need to demonstrate:

RN, RM in addition to Grad Dip or Masters in Child, Family and Health nursing
Maternal and Child Health Nurse (Victorian registration)
Up-to-date theoretical knowledge of family and child health, development and parenting
Ability to work in partnership with parents/careers to enhance their parenting capacity
Solution based approach to infant, child, family and parenting issues
Experience in facilitating group education
Experience working with families experiencing vulnerability
Ability to assess infant/child development and parent’s capacity to provide safe and direct care and respond to any immediate needs and risks
Understanding of the legislative requirements that guide all decision making and service delivery for vulnerable and at-risk children and families
