About the Opportunity
Australian Surface Technologies is seeking a qualified and experienced Metal Machinist (First Class) to join the team.
This a full-time role, Monday to Friday at our Factory in Dandenong South, Victoria.
About you:
- You will be a highly organised and detail-oriented professional tradesperson who will bring the following:
- Certificate III in Engineering Mechanical trade or equivalent
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in a related field
- Demonstrated safety-first mindset.
- Is versatile, reliable & motivated
- Has a keen eye for detail, a can-do attitude,
- Willing to gain knowledge & skills as well as an understanding of production is highly desirable
- Has a Current C driver's license
- Pass a drug & alcohol test
- Pass a pre-employment medical (if requested)
- Has a Current National Police Clearance
- Has strong Machining skills
- Has strong understanding of tooling applications
- Has strong problem solving & analytical skills
- Has strong organisational & time management skills
- Has strong communication & interpersonal skills
- Has an ability to work both autonomously as well as in a team environment
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Operate manual machine lathe with a maximum capacity of 3 metres in length
- Operate manual cylindrical grinders up to 3 metres between centres
- Handling of production orders that require detailed documentation to be recorded
- The precision grinding of components to a finish tolerance of 20 microns or better and a TIR of 25 microns or better over 3 metres in length
- Grinding of internal and external cylindrical components, surface grinding and general tool making.
- Operating, setting up, and maintaining various equipment and machine tools such as manual machine lathes, cylindrical grinders, and surface grinders
- Reading, interpreting, and reviewing electronic or written job cards, blueprints, or drawings to understand output specifications
- Selecting and using the correct tools and materials for the job
- Determining how much material to remove and the cutting path as required
- Monitoring and adjusting equipment in terms of the rate, speed, and temperature to ensure consistency with specifications
- Measure, examine, and test during the course of work and on completed units in order to detect defects and ensure consistency and conformance to specifications
- Correctly filling out required paperwork
- Undertaking and completing assigned tasks with minimal supervision and in compliance with health and safety regulations.

Salary Range: $80,000 - $90,000
Location: Dandenong South, Victoria
