About ICHYMHS
The Child and Youth Mental Health Service (ICYMHS) sits within the Mental Health Division and provides tertiary mental health services to the north-eastern catchment of Melbourne (currently the local government areas of Banyule, Boroondara, Darebin, Nillumbik, Whittlesea, and Yarra). Young people eligible for the service are aged 0-25 years. Lived and Living Experience Workforce is also embedded with the ICYMHS Directorate.
ICYMHS CATS work with children and young people and their families/carers in their home. This includes when presenting in crisis and with acute mental health issues requiring crisis interventions and home-based support preventing, when possible, ED and inpatient unit admissions.
About the role
The ICYMHS CATS (Crisis Assessment & Treatment Service) Team within Austin Health plays a crucial role in providing timely and effective assessment and treatment. You will work with children, young people, their families and carers in their home environment. Children and young people may be presenting with high acuity mental health needs. You will work as part of an MDT to support them remaining in the community where possible.
A regular day will see you:
Display a clear understanding of and practice in the principles of recovery-orientated, trauma-informed and family-centred, collaborative practice and expertise in engaging children and young people and their families within a range of settings.
Provide high quality, evidence-based clinical assessment and treatment modalities at an individual or family-system level as indicated by clinical need within available resources.
Work closely with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure that care is person-centred, holistic, and responsive to the individual needs of children and young consumers and their families.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
A strong passion and background in supporting mental health and wellbeing of children and young people and their families.
An extensive understanding of recovery-focused care and an ability to work from a strengths-based approach in the community.
Willingness to participate in ongoing training and supervision as part of your role.
Effective communication skills and the ability to engage with children and young people, their carers and community in support of their recovery.
