The opportunity
Industrial Power Systems is seeking an experienced General Manager to lead and optimise business performance, driving profitability, operational excellence and best practice across all functions of the Volvo Penta Industrial business.
This is an opportunity to lead a growing industrial business with a strong market position, trusted brand and a clear mandate to drive commercial performance, customer outcomes and sustainable growth. Reporting to the Executive Director, this senior leadership role has accountability for commercial and operational performance across Victoria and Tasmania, including direct leadership of the Sales Manager and Field Service function, while influencing outcomes across the broader leadership group. With a developing dealer footprint, strong brand backing and clear opportunity to deepen customer reach and service capability, this role offers the chance to make a visible impact on the next phase of growth.
Your impact (what you’ll be trusted to own)
As General Manager, you will take end-to-end accountability for operational and commercial performance, including:
Operational leadership & performance
- Lead operations in line with company policy and ethical, legal and professional standards.
- Build and maintain efficient processes that improve service quality and strengthen customer retention.
- Own gross margin, expenses and working capital outcomes to maximise sustainable profit.
- Lead inventory performance (stock turnover, delivery expectations, obsolescence control).
Commercial growth & stakeholder leadership
- Identify and deliver practical growth opportunities across markets, products and customer segments.
- Strengthen customer relationships through a structured visitation plan and a customer-first operating rhythm.
- Build strong relationships with OEMs, partners, franchise representatives, suppliers and customers to support market awareness and performance.
- Lead and drive business growth across the Volvo Penta Industrial dealer network in Victoria and Tasmania.
Financial governance & reporting
- Review monthly P&L performance to identify trends, risks and opportunities.
- Monitor debtors (trade and product sales) and take decisive action where required.
- Provide accurate, timely reporting, with disciplined governance and adherence to policy and process, including capex approvals.
People leadership
- Lead, coach and develop your direct reports; manage performance reviews, capability uplift, and employee matters promptly and professionally.
- Manage escalated customer complaints pragmatically and keep senior leadership informed of serious matters.
Safety leadership
- Actively practice and promote WHS policies; ensure incidents, injuries and near misses are reported in line with company policy.

You’ll bring:
- A demonstrated ability to lead business growth through dealer, OEM and customer engagement across industrial markets.
- Proven senior leadership experience in distributor/dealership operations and multi-function environments.
- Strong commercial capability across P&L, margin management, forecasting and reporting.
- Demonstrated experience in heavy diesel engine sales and service within the plant and equipment sector, or a closely related industry.
- Confidence using Dealer Management Systems, Microsoft 365 and disciplined operational reporting to support decision-making and performance management.
- High-impact communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills with customers, franchise/OEM stakeholders and suppliers.
