Primary objective
Provide a high-level administrative support and reception service to clinical areas, with a primary focus on revenue capture, ensuring day
to day administrative tasks are completed within specified time frames and in a professional manner.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate proven effective administrative and secretarial skills, including attention to detail and
the ability to be discreet, maintain confidentiality and discern sensitive issues.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Ensure a professional and efficient approach to the management of administration of the area appointed to.
2. Provide a frontline information service in response to queries from the public, staff and external agencies.
3. Conduct inpatient interviews to verify demographic details and financial status, ensuring accurate data is entered in a timely manner
to ensure maximisation of revenue.
4. Assist patients or next of kin to complete the relevant details on election forms and insurance claim forms.
5. Integral member of multi-disciplinary team responsible for optimal patient flow.
6. Prepare and maintain patients’ medical records in line with the established sequence according to Medical Records Standards
(AS2828).
7. Operate multiple computer systems, ensuring accuracy of sensitive information related to patient activities.
8. Arrange ward transfers, patient travel, discharges and follow-up appointments through appropriate channels.
9. Manage orders, quotes and internal requisitions to maintain adequate stock and equipment for the ward.
10. Participate in hospital wide quality assurance programs, self-evaluation and performance review in consultation with Divisional and
Clinical Support Services staff.
11. Follow defined service quality standards, Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated high level of administration, interpersonal, oral and written skills with the ability to meet deadlines, including attention
to detail.
2. Demonstrated initiative and organisational skills of a high order, including the ability to work with competing priorities, manage highly
sensitive issues working under pressure independently and manage a variety of tasks in a busy and changing work environment.
3. Demonstrated ability to provide excellent service through effective and appropriate communication with clients and staff at all levels,
including health professionals and members of the public.
4. Demonstrated working knowledge and effective use of IT systems used in an acute care setting and the ability to navigate multiple
computer systems required of the position at any given time.
5. Demonstrated reliability as an effective team member.
6. Understanding of privacy principles, proven ability to maintain strict confidentiality and the ability to interact effectively with people
from diverse cultures, particularly in dealing in sensitive matters.
7. Ability to undertake shift work which may include working beyond 4:21pm on a weekday, weekend shifts and public holidays to meet
operational demands.
8. The ability to work across all campuses Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) and Palmerston Regional Hospital (PRH).
9. Ability to comply with Infection Control procedures and Occupational Health and Safety requirements within a hospital environment.
Desirable
1. Demonstrated experience with revenue maximisation processes and Ward Admission/Discharge procedures in an acute care setting.
2. Demonstrated working knowledge of relevant software packages such as Acacia, JadeCare and NTG Pay.
3. Knowledge of medical terminology or experience in health care service operations.
