Full Job Description

Key Role Responsibilities

Workforce & Industry Capability

Lead development and delivery of SIAA’s national workforce strategy aligned to industry and government priorities
Develop and oversee internship, mentoring and professional development initiatives across the SIAA membership
Strengthen education-to-industry pathways through engagement with universities, training providers and industry partners
Coordinate workforce capability initiatives including CPD frameworks and credentialing opportunities
Engage with federal and state government departments, education institutions and research organisations to support workforce initiatives
Maintain and evolve industry capability mapping and workforce insights to support advocacy and policy development
Support development of workforce initiatives aligned to international collaboration and industry growth priorities

Policy and Advocacy Leadership

Lead development and delivery of SIAA’s policy and advocacy agenda aligned to strategic priorities
Coordinate policy submissions, briefing papers and advocacy initiatives
Engage with government stakeholders to support industry priorities and regulatory outcomes
Identify regulatory and structural barriers impacting the Australian space industry and develop recommendations
Support SIAA working groups and thought leadership initiatives aligned to policy priorities
Provide policy input into strategic initiatives including workforce, commercial opportunities and international collaboration
Support development of industry position papers and advocacy materials

Legal & Regulatory Leadership

Provide legal and regulatory advisory across SIAA’s workforce, policy and strategic initiatives
Research and analyse Australian and international legislative and regulatory frameworks relevant to the space sector
Provide legal input into policy submissions, advocacy and industry engagement
Review and advise on Memoranda of Understanding, partnership agreements and collaboration frameworks
Advise on intellectual property, data governance, privacy and compliance matters across SIAA initiatives
Monitor international regulatory and trade developments including export controls, tariffs and foreign investment frameworks
Provide regulatory advisory supporting international collaboration and cross-border industry participation
Support drafting and review of international cooperation agreements and regulatory frameworks

Supporting Responsibilities

Support international collaboration initiatives, including engagement with global partners and regulatory analysis to enable industry participation
Provide legal and regulatory input into grant applications, funding opportunities and associated compliance requirements
Collaborate with the CEO and leadership team on strategic initiatives, industry engagement and organisational priorities
Contribute to cross-functional planning, reporting and delivery aligned to SIAA’s four-year strategy
Represent SIAA in stakeholder meetings, industry forums and working groups where required
Provide support across organisational initiatives, events and programs as required

Qualifications

Required

Must have unrestricted right to work in Australia (Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or holder of an eligible visa with full work rights).
Bachelor of Laws (LLB or equivalent).
Master of Laws (LLM) or postgraduate qualification in law.
Minimum 1 year’s post-qualification legal experience (in regulatory, policy, governance or international legal advisory environments, including engagement with government or multilateral stakeholders).
3 years’ experience in interpreting and applying legal frameworks, including privacy, intellectual property, employment or administrative law.
3 years’ + experience managing complex multi-stakeholder initiatives involving industry, academia and/or government partners.
5 years’ experience in project management, including planning, delivery, and evaluation of multi-stakeholder initiatives.
1 years + experience in implementing workforce initiatives, workforce development strategy, professional accreditation or CPD frameworks, and cross-sector skills pathway design.

Preferred:

Knowledge of, or experience working across, multiple legal systems (e.g. common law and civil law jurisdictions), with the ability to undertake comparative legal and regulatory analysis in international contexts.
Understanding of the Australian space industry landscape, including workforce development needs, sector-specific challenges, and emerging technologies.
Expertise in industry capability mapping and data management systems, including database development and stakeholder integration.
Knowledge of policy and regulatory environments affecting space and advanced technology sectors.
Familiarity with grant research, funding opportunities, and national innovation initiatives.
Advanced communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build partnerships across industry, academia, and government.

Pay: $90,000.00 – $110,000.00 per year
