Your Time to Shine
As a Counsellor, you will deliver professional counselling and support services to TAFE SA students, helping them navigate personal, educational and wellbeing challenges to achieve their learning goals. You will partner with teaching and support staff to provide specialist advice and consultation that enhances inclusive practices, strengthens student support, and promotes student participation, engagement and success.
The role is responsible for supporting students across a broad range of areas, including wellbeing, disability support, financial concerns, crisis intervention, conflict resolution, complaints, and personal challenges. You will assess individual needs, coordinate appropriate support strategies, and contribute to the ongoing evaluation and continuous improvement of services.
Working collaboratively across TAFE SA, you will exercise sound judgement, initiative and professional expertise to support student success and contribute to the achievement of organisational objectives.
What You’ll Bring
- Minimum Degree-level qualification in Counselling, Social Work or Psychology, with eligibility for membership of a relevant professional body highly regarded, e.g. AASW, MAPS or ACA.
- Experience delivering professional counselling services and a broad range of intervention strategies, including mediation, negotiation, problem solving and conflict resolution, to support diverse client groups including people with disability, people at risk and people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Proven ability to assess and respond to complex student support needs, including mental health concerns, harassment, relationship challenges, substance misuse, domestic and family violence, informed by a strong knowledge of legislative requirements, duty of care obligations, VET sector frameworks and RTO standards.
What You Need to Know
A valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) issued by the South Australian Department of Human Services is required before employment.
