St Patricks Primary School Cessnock is seeking two (2) Temporary part time Leaning Support Assistants to join the team for terms 3 & 4.

1 x 25 hours per week, working across 5 day
1x 16.5 hours per week, working across 3 days

St Patrick’s Primary School, Cessnock is located in the beautiful Hunter Valley area of New South Wales cratering for students from Kindergarten to Year 6. Surrounded outside of the city centre by verdant countryside, Cessnock is the largest town in Australia’s oldest wine region. The region is full of activities catering to various lifestyle pursuits and is less than an hour outside of the Newcastle CBD. A school of 362 students, St Patrick's provides a place, built on the Josephite tradition, where creative learning and the individual talents of each student and teacher is appreciated, embraced and encouraged. The school has a strong focus on community and is committed to supporting each individual student and teacher.

Job Description

Learning Support Assistants (LSA) in a Catholic school have a unique role to play and are assigned with the task of supporting teachers in ensuring each child has the opportunity to grow both academically and spiritually and to live a purposeful life.

Supported by the Catholic community, of which they are a vital part, LSAs support teachers in inviting students and their families into a faith-filled educational experience
LSAs support the promotion of the school as a place of learning and excellence where creativity and curiosity are nurtured and students are connected with their world through deep learning and engagement
Under the direction of teachers, LSAs provide support and assistance in school routines; classroom activities; and the care and support of students with disability.

Desired Skills and Experience

EXPERIENCE/CRITERIA

Ability to articulate a clear understanding of and a personal commitment to Catholic education and the mission of the Church through Catholic schools
Experience working with students with disability (K-12)
Demonstrated ability to work under the direction of a teacher, and in collaboration with school staff, CSO staff, and external stakeholders
Demonstrated ability to effectively administer assessments, and deliver interventions, under the direction of a teacher
Demonstrated ability to implement adjustments required for individual students and groups of students
Experience in supporting student enrolment and transitions, under the direction of a teacher
Knowledge about the relevant Disability legislation and the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data
Evidence of excellent organisational, interpersonal, and administrative skills
Kinder and Infants LSA experience (desirable)

QUALIFICATIONS

Current paid NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC) number
Completion of anaphylaxis training
Certificate III or IV in School Based Education Support / or experience in schools (Desirable)

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary is in accordance with New South Wales & Australian Capital Territory Catholic Systemic Schools Enterprise Agreement 2025.
