Ongoing, full-time position based at the Malmsbury Youth Justice Precinct but working flexibly across other Youth Justice Custodial Precincts (Cherry Creek & Parkville), where needed to respond to operational requirements.
YJW2 role: $ 81,496 - $ 93,719 per year plus super
What you will do
As Cultural Liaison Officer, you will support multicultural and multifaith young people in custody. You will help them stay connected to culture, family and community while in a safe setting.
You will:
- create culturally relevant support plans for young people in custody
- support young people and their primary caregivers, and include families in case planning
- work with health, community youth justice and custodial staff on daily cultural support needs
- design and run evidence-based programs that build positive cultural identity and address offending risks
- give practical advice to staff and build links with elders, community groups and other services.
About you
You must hold a current employee Working with Children Check card before you start. You must also hold a current full driver licence. A qualification in social work, youth work, community development or a related field is desirable.
You should also have:
- experience working with multicultural and multifaith communities
- knowledge of creating and delivering programs for young people aged 12 to 21
- the ability to communicate with care, respect and clarity across cultures and faiths
- the ability to complete thorough cultural assessments and plan effective support.
