Buon Appetit is currently seeking Expressions of Interest from 1st, 2nd and 3rd Year Apprentice Chefs who are looking to build their career in a busy, professional Italian kitchen.
We are a busy, family-owned Italian restaurant in Camden specialising in handmade pasta, traditional Italian cooking and authentic Napoletana-style wood-fired pizza.
This is an opportunity to learn in a genuine restaurant environment, working with experienced chefs, quality produce and fresh ingredients while developing the skills required to become a confident, well-rounded chef.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We'd love to hear from:
- 1st Year Apprentices looking to begin their commercial cookery career
- 2nd Year Apprentices wanting to continue and expand their training
- 3rd Year Apprentices looking to strengthen their skills before completing their apprenticeship
- Current apprentices looking to transfer their apprenticeship to a new workplace
We're looking for people who:
- Have a genuine interest and passion for food and cooking
- Want to learn about fresh produce, ingredients and traditional Italian food
- Are enthusiastic and willing to learn
- Take pride in their work
- Are reliable and punctual
- Can listen, take direction and work as part of a team
- Are comfortable working in a busy, fast-paced restaurant kitchen
- Want to develop a long-term career as a chef
Previous kitchen experience is beneficial but not essential for 1st Year applicants. Attitude, reliability and a willingness to learn are extremely important to us.
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
Depending on your apprenticeship level and experience, you'll gain hands-on experience across areas including:
- Knife skills and food preparation
- Fresh produce and ingredient preparation
- Larder and cold section
- Entrées and sides
- Pasta preparation and cooking
- Sauces and traditional Italian dishes
- Wood-fired cooking
- Pizza preparation
- Stock rotation, FIFO and food storage
- Food safety and kitchen hygiene
- Prep organisation and section management
- Working efficiently during high-volume service
- Developing consistency, speed and presentation
As your skills develop, you'll be given greater responsibility and the opportunity to progress through different sections of the kitchen.

Buon Appetit began as a family-run Italian food truck and has grown into one of Camden's busiest Italian restaurants.
We believe an apprenticeship should be more than simply completing a qualification. We want our apprentices to actually learn the trade, understand ingredients, develop strong kitchen fundamentals and become chefs who can confidently run a section.
You'll work alongside experienced chefs in a team that values quality, consistency, discipline and genuine hospitality.
EMPLOYMENT
- Full-time apprenticeship
- Open to 1st, 2nd and 3rd Year Apprentices
- Existing apprentices are welcome to apply for a transfer
- Training completed alongside the applicable apprenticeship/TAFE requirements
- Wages paid in accordance with the Restaurant Industry Award and applicable apprentice rates
