Lead Design Coordinator – Industrial
At Aurecon, we are optimistic about the future. We are thinkers, solvers, and collaborators who work with our clients to deliver the infrastructure and assets that strengthen communities and create a sustainable future.
What you’ll do
As a Design Coordinator in our Industrial team based in Brisbane, you will play a key role in delivering a 5-year Engineering Services Provider (ESP) program. You’ll be responsible for coordinating multidisciplinary design activities across a portfolio of upstream gas projects, ensuring alignment between client requirements and delivery outcomes.
Embedded within the client’s office, you will act as a critical interface between stakeholders and delivery teams, driving collaboration, consistency, and quality across all design disciplines. Your upstream gas experience will be essential in guiding both the client and project teams toward practical, high-value solutions.
In addition to coordinating multidisciplinary design, you will bring deep expertise in piping and process design, ensuring robust design practices, consistency, and adherence to established standards across all project deliverables.
As a Lead Design Coordinator, you’ll be responsible for:
-
Lead and coordinate all design disciplines across the APLNG upstream gas facilities, including brownfield modifications and sustaining capital works.
-
Manage the integration of structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and civil design into the overall 3D model environment.
-
Oversee production, checking, and approval of piping isometrics, general arrangements, and fabrication deliverables.
-
Conduct quality reviews and verification of design deliverables to ensure compliance with project specifications, industry codes, and client standards.
-
Facilitate model reviews with internal teams and client stakeholders, ensuring issues are identified, tracked, and resolved effectively.
-
Support long-term program delivery, balancing multiple work fronts across operational assets
-
Develop scope definitions, cost estimates, and support planning for ongoing and future works
-
Drive a digital engineering approach, using intelligent models and data-driven workflows to improve efficiency and accuracy
-
Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to designers and modellers across geographically distributed teams
-
Build strong, enduring relationships with client stakeholders across both the client and and our partners.
What you’ll bring
You're someone who thrives in complex engineering environments, builds strong relationships, and is motivated by purposeful work that keeps critical energy assets operating safely and reliably. You will bring:
-
Extensive experience in piping design within oil & gas, CSG, petrochemical, or heavy industrial environments
-
Strong experience working on brownfield modifications and sustaining capital programs within operating facilities
-
Advanced capability in Autodesk Plant 3D and AVEVA, including intelligent 3D model development, specification management, and multidisciplinary coordination
-
Strong understanding of P&IDs and the ability to translate engineering intent into high-quality design outputs
-
Demonstrated experience coordinating multidisciplinary design across structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and civil disciplines
-
Proven experience managing piping isometric workflows, including extraction, checking, and quality assurance
-
Knowledge of applicable industry codes, standards, and piping specifications
-
A commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement, with a proactive mindset toward problem‑solving and digital ways of working.
-
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience working closely with clients, engineers, and global delivery teams
-
Experience leading, mentoring, and guiding designers and modellers across both local and distributed teams
-
Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver across a portfolio of concurrent projects
-
Proven ability to lead, mentor, and coordinate teams across both local and global delivery environments
