Shape the future of Tasmania’s stunning East Coast
What if your next planning role offered more than just another desk, another DA, and another commute?
At Glamorgan Spring Bay Council, this is your opportunity to help shape one of Tasmania’s most breathtaking and fast-evolving regions; where coastal villages, thriving tourism, agriculture, community, and environmental values intersect in truly meaningful ways.
From world-class beaches and national parks to growing townships and exciting development opportunities, Glamorgan Spring Bay is a municipality on the move, and we’re looking for a passionate and experienced Senior Planner to help guide its future.
Based in Triabunna on Tasmania’s beautiful East Coast, this role offers the rare balance of impactful professional work and an enviable lifestyle.
Why planners love regional local government
This isn’t a role where you become one small cog in a giant machine.
In regional local government, your work genuinely matters.
You will work closely with a small, supportive, and collaborative team where your ideas, expertise and leadership will have visible impact across the municipality. You’ll be involved in diverse and interesting planning matters; from residential and tourism developments through to environmental, commercial, and strategic land use considerations.
You’ll also have the opportunity to:
- Work directly with decision-makers and senior leaders
- Mentor and support emerging planners
- Influence process improvement and customer experience
- Build strong relationships with community and developers
- Develop leadership capability and accelerate your career progression
- Help shape the future character of a growing and highly desirable region
Whether you are an experienced Senior Planner looking for a lifestyle change, or an established planner ready to take the next step toward leadership and executive pathways, we would love to hear from you.
About the role
As Senior Planner, you will provide expert statutory planning advice and assessment across a broad range of development applications and planning matters. You will play a key leadership role within the Planning and Development team, providing mentorship and support to our junior planner while helping deliver practical, customer-focused outcomes for the community.
This role offers genuine variety, autonomy, and the opportunity to work on complex and meaningful planning matters in a highly dynamic environment.
Experience in local government is welcomed but not essential. We are open to planners from a range of backgrounds including statutory, strategic, environmental, or private consulting who are looking for a rewarding career move and the opportunity to make a real difference.
What we’re looking for
We’re seeking someone who:
- Brings strong planning knowledge and considered professional judgement
- Is solutions-focused and community-minded
- Enjoys mentoring and supporting others
- Communicates with confidence, professionalism, and empathy
- Thrives in collaborative environments
- Wants to contribute to a positive workplace culture
- Sees opportunity in regional growth and development
Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who genuinely wants to be part of our community and help shape its future.
What’s in it for you?
In addition to joining a genuinely supportive team and working in one of Tasmania’s most spectacular locations, we offer:
- A competitive salary package between $90,000 and $101,848 (negotiable, based on skills and experience – let’s talk!)
- Fully maintained fleet vehicle with full private use
- 18.5% superannuation with the option to take 6.5% super as additional salary
- Relocation assistance
- Laptop and mobile phone
- Flexible and supportive working environment
- Professional development opportunities
- Genuine career growth and leadership pathways
