Primary objective
To provide high-quality care to inpatients (general paediatric and neonatal unit) and outpatients within Alice Springs Hospital
and its catchment area of the Central Australian and Barkly regions, extending to the border areas of Western Australia and
South Australia.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide high quality care for inpatients and outpatients across neonatal and paediatric services.
2. Provide routine and emergency after-hours services, as rostered.
3. Conduct general paediatric outpatient clinics at Alice Springs Hospital.
4. Participate in the provision of specialist paediatric outreach services to regional hospitals and remote communities.
5. Supervise, support and evaluate the work of junior medical officers in their provision of paediatric services.
6. Initiate and participate in personal professional development, teaching, quality and safety activities, research and clinical
audits.
7. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken, to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
8. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Eligible for general registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
2. A minimum of 2 years post-graduate experience
3. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact positively as a team member in a
busy and culturally diverse work environment.
4. A demonstrated interest in and commitment to improving rural and Indigenous child health.
5. Evidence of commitment to continuing education, teaching, research and quality assurance activities.
Desirable
1. Registration as a trainee with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (Paediatrics and Child Health). For other
applicants, a particular interest in paediatrics is desirable, as manifest by prior experience in paediatric inpatient and
outpatient care, general practice or emergency medicine, or equivalent.
