Dynamic security role at Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct.
Perfect job for problem solvers with great verbal communication skills.
Full training provided, including a fully-funded Certificate IV in Youth Justice.
Earn up to $99,645 per year, on a base of $62,104 (including standard penalty rates).
Relocation allowance available for eligible candidates.

Youth justice worker (Nights) are the frontline staff who supervise and support young people overnight who are on remand or serving a sentence in custody.

This is not a security job with long stretches of downtime. You will speak directly to young people throughout the night, typically through their intercom. When they feel vulnerable, they may reach out. Some conversations will be raw and personal. You will listen with care and compassion while still keeping firm boundaries.

You will also:

conduct regular wellbeing checks of young people
redirect anti-social and challenging behaviour
monitor CCTV, complete compliance reporting and respond to any alarms
respond to incidents as they occur
facilitate support from other services, including health and mental health providers, educators and disability organisations.

We're currently offering up to $10,000 as a relocation allowance to help cover costs for eligible candidates who are interested in moving to within an hour's drive of the facility.

About you

Being a youth justice worker on the night shift isn't for everyone. But our high-performing staff take pride in the work and appreciate the freedom it gives them in the rest of their lives.

This could be a great role for you if you are:

able to build rapport and negotiate effectively with young people
looking for a night role that frees up some daytime hours to enjoy other things you're passionate about.

Eligibility

To be considered for a youth justice worker role you must be either:

an Australian citizen – a birth certificate, citizenship certificate or current passport is required as proof of eligibility
a permanent resident of Australia
a New Zealand citizen who has entered Australia on a valid passport, or eligible to work in Australia for a period of more than six months.

You will also need to pass a health and fitness assessment. Learn how your current fitness levels match up and the best ways to prepare.

Prior to starting work, all successful candidates must independently obtain:

current First Aid Certification (HLTAID011)
current CPR Certification
a valid Working with Children Check (Employee).

Please note, all certificates must be valid for at least three months from employment start date.
