Full Job Description

Join the founding kitchen team at Powerhouse Parramatta, a major new dining destination overlooking the Parramatta River, opening as part of Western Sydney's first state cultural institution. This is a chance to run your own section, on fire, in a kitchen built on precision, produce, and craft from its very first service.

The kitchen is brand new and fitted out with state of the art fire and grill equipment, no worn in gear, no compromises. We want cooks who already know their way around live fire, dry ageing, and premium produce, and who are ready to bring that experience to a section they can genuinely make their own.

This is a role for a capable, driven cook ready to own a section and deliver consistently, service after service. You'll work closely with the Sous Chef and Executive Chef, learning the standards and techniques that define the kitchen while building the foundations of your own leadership.

Section & Service

Run your section with confidence, consistency, and pride
Prepare and maintain mise en place to the standard required before every service
Communicate clearly with the pass and neighbouring sections throughout service

Culinary Standards

Execute every dish on your section to spec, every time, with live fire cooking central to the role
Build genuine knowledge of fire technique, produce, and the stories behind the menu
Work hands-on with brand new fire, grill, and specialist equipment
Take pride in precision, cleanliness, and consistency as non-negotiables

Team Contribution

Support and mentor Commis Chefs working within your section
Help onboard and train new team members as the kitchen grows
Contribute positively to a culture of discipline, respect, and high performance

Operations & Compliance

Assist with stock rotation, ordering, and minimising waste on your section
Follow all food safety, HACCP, and WHS procedures without exception
Maintain a clean, organised station through service and pack-down

We Are Looking For

Prior experience as a Chef de Partie, or a strong Commis ready to step up
Experience in a busy, quality focused kitchen with genuine fire or grill exposure highly regarded
Solid knife skills, timing, and section management under pressure
Reliable, coachable, and genuinely passionate about fire driven, produce led cooking
Keen to work with brand new kitchen equipment and grow alongside a new team

Your section runs cleanly, on time, and to spec across every service
Your dishes are consistent whether it's a quiet Tuesday or a full house
You're seen as someone the kitchen can rely on and build around
You're actively developing the skills and habits that lead toward a Sous Chef role

Pay: $75,000.00 – $80,000.00 per year
