About the Opportunity

Swanson Industries has spent more than 70 years solving hydraulic problems for heavy industry - growing into a specialist in cylinder manufacturing, repair, and surface technology trusted across mining, defence, marine, and agriculture.

We're looking for an Apprentice Fitter & Machinist to join our Mackay team, starting December/January. Our Mackay workshop specialises in hydraulic cylinder repair, rebuild, and maintenance for high-load applications used in the mining and industrial equipment that keeps operations across Central Queensland running. You'll be learning the trade hands-on, working through inspection, precision machining, and reassembly on components that can't afford to fail.

You won't be figuring this out on your own. Through our Elevate Apprenticeship Program, you'll have a mentor in your corner, structured learning through the Elevate Academy, and a wider community of apprentices across Questas Group going through the same journey.

Your Responsibilities

Work alongside senior fitters and machinists on hydraulic cylinder repair and rebuild
Learn precision machining techniques and equipment
Assist with inspection and fault-finding on hydraulic components
Support reassembly and testing processes to restore components to specification
Attend training programs and courses to build your trade knowledge and skills

About You

Minimum Year 10 High Sch-ol Certificate
Curious about how machines and mechanical systems work
Comfortable with maths, and good with your hands
Careful and precise — accuracy matters in this trade
A clear communicator who enjoys working with people
Motivated, reliable, and ready to learn
