About the Opportunity
We are seeking a Production Engineer with approximately 3–5 years’ experience to join our Melbourne-based engineering team on a full-time, permanent basis. This is a technically diverse, hands-on role spanning engineering design and CAD, fan performance testing, EC motor diagnostics, product data validation and SAP migration support.
We are looking for someone who brings genuine practical experience across these technical areas and who is comfortable working both independently and as part of a team on a range of engineering tasks. We encourage all suitably qualified candidates to apply.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Design & CAD
- Produce detailed engineering drawings, 3D models and renders using CAD software (DraftSight, SolidWorks or equivalent) to relevant Australian and international standards.
- Determine dimensions, material requirements, weight limitations and fluid dynamics parameters.
- Design and document engineering processes and physical layouts to support product development and manufacturing.
- Assess customer and stakeholder requirements and provide technically appropriate product selection recommendations.
- Ensure all designs comply with applicable regulations, standards and quality requirements.
Fan Performance Testing
- Perform fan performance testing in accordance with AMCA standards and company procedures.
- Set up and operate test rigs and air flow chambers; measure power consumption, noise levels and airflow performance.
- Record and interpret test data accurately, identifying any deviations from expected performance specifications.
- Prepare and calibrate all equipment and test apparatus, ensuring test conditions are correctly established prior to each test run.
- Report findings to the engineering team and support corrective action where required.
EC Motor Diagnostics
- Diagnose and rectify faults in EC motor and controller systems.
- Verify motor performance through practical testing and analysis.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics relevant to fan and motor-driven equipment.
Data Validation & SAP Migration Support
- Review and validate engineering and product data for accuracy, completeness and consistency prior to migration into SAP.
- Identify and correct data errors, duplicates and obsolete records in accordance with project guidelines.
- Assist with mapping of existing data structures to SAP fields.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Product Management and IT stakeholders to resolve data issues and support a successful migration outcome.
- Maintain rigorous data integrity standards across all validation and migration activities.
Documentation & Collaboration
- Prepare technical manuals and documentation describing product operation, features, maintenance and test outcomes.
- Work closely with engineers, product managers, sales and IT teams to gather design and data requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve drawing standards, data quality and testing processes.
What We Are Looking For
Essential Requirements
- Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in a production or manufacturing engineering role.
- Exposure to or experience in fan performance testing using air flow chambers or wind tunnels, including test rig setup, data acquisition and interpretation of results against AMCA standards.
- Experience with EC motor testing, fault diagnosis and implementation of corrective actions.
- Proficiency with CAD software (DraftSight, SolidWorks or equivalent) to produce and modify detailed engineering drawings, 3D models and renders.
- Working knowledge of electrical and electronic systems including the ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
- Sound understanding of fluid dynamics principles as applied to fan and ventilation system design.
- Ability to assess stakeholder requirements and recommend technically appropriate products.
Highly Regarded
- Experience with data validation, data entry or ERP migration activities.
- Familiarity with SAP or similar ERP systems.
- Experience in process and layout design for product development or manufacturing environments.
Skills & Attributes
- Strong technical grounding in mechanical and/or electrical engineering with a practical, hands-on approach.
- High attention to detail in producing drawings, recording test data and managing engineering documentation.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and apply sound engineering judgement.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver to deadlines across concurrent tasks.
- Strong focus on data accuracy and integrity, particularly in the context of ERP migration.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Collaborative and team-oriented approach to working with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Proactive attitude towards continuous improvement in processes, standards and data quality.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary of $87,000 per annum + superannuation.
- Permanent full-time position based in Melbourne.
- Collaborative and technically focused team environment.
- Opportunity to contribute to a significant ERP transformation project.
- Ongoing professional development and career growth opportunities.
