## Truck Driver (General)
## Position Overview
We are looking for a reliable and experienced Truck Driver (General) to join our growing transport and logistics team. In this role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of bulky goods across designated routes, ensuring timely deliveries and the highest standards of road safety. The ideal candidate holds a valid, specially endorsed heavy vehicle licence and brings a strong commitment to compliance, vehicle care, and professional conduct. ## Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy trucks and vehicles safely across metropolitan and regional routes, adhering to all road traffic laws and transport regulations
- Manoeuvre vehicles into loading and unloading zones with precision, ensuring safe positioning at depots, warehouses, and customer sites
- Load and unload cargo using appropriate lifting, tipping, and mechanical handling equipment in accordance with safe work procedures
- Estimate and verify load weights to comply with legal limitations, ensuring even and safe weight distribution across the vehicle
- Secure and cover goods appropriately prior to departure, preventing movement, loss, or damage during transit
- Conduct pre-start and regular vehicle inspections to confirm roadworthiness, reporting any faults or maintenance requirements promptly
- Verify freight and loading documentation, confirm the condition of goods prior to despatch, and obtain signed certification upon delivery
- Plan and follow efficient delivery routes, adapting to changing conditions such as traffic, weather, or amended schedules
- Maintain accurate records of driving hours, fuel usage, and delivery activities in compliance with chain of responsibility obligations
- Communicate proactively with dispatch, warehouse staff, and customers regarding delivery status, delays, or discrepancies
- Adhere to all workplace health and safety requirements, including correct manual handling techniques and use of personal protective equipment
- Represent the organisation professionally at all times when interacting with clients, suppliers, and members of the public
## Required Qualifications & Skills
- Valid Heavy Rigid (HR) or Heavy Combination (HC) licence, or higher, with all relevant endorsements as required by the role
- Demonstrated experience driving heavy trucks in a commercial freight, logistics, or transport environment
- Sound understanding of the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) and chain of responsibility obligations
- Ability to operate mechanical loading and unloading equipment, including forklifts, tail lifts, and tipping mechanisms
- Strong spatial awareness and the ability to safely manoeuvre large vehicles in confined or busy environments
- Competence in completing transport documentation, consignment notes, and delivery dockets accurately
- Good physical fitness and the ability to perform manual handling tasks as required throughout the shift
- Reliable, punctual, and self-disciplined with a demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Sound numeracy skills for estimating load weights and ensuring compliance with load limits
- Clean driving record with no major traffic infringements
## Preferred Qualifications
- Current forklift licence (LF or LO class)
- First aid certificate or willingness to obtain one
- Experience with refrigerated or hazardous goods transport
- Dangerous Goods (DG) or Load Restraint training or certification
- Familiarity with telematics systems, GPS fleet tracking, or transport management software
- Multi-combination (MC) licence for candidates seeking broader role opportunities
