The BreastScreen NSW South Eastern Sydney Illawarra (SESI) Service is operationally managed by the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) and covers the regions within SESLHD and Illawarra and Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD). Screening and assessment services are conducted at several fixed and mobile sites across the SESLHD and ISLHD districts.
The Deputy Designated Radiologist role is responsible for assisting the Designated Radiologist in overseeing the quality and performance of radiological services within BreastScreen NSW (SESI). The role will perform tasks as directed by the Designated Radiologist and Director to assist in the achievement of performance standards and strategic priorities. This requires a close working relationship with the service’s Designated Radiologist, Director, Clinical Coordinator and radiologists.
You will be required to -
- Conduct screen reading and assessment clinic duties as required by the Service.
- Facilitate the orientation and supervision of training of radiologists new to the Service.
- Develop and/or participation in continuing professional development activities. This would include a strong encouragement of involvement by other radiologists.
- Assist the Designated Radiologist in the ongoing performance review of the service’s standards.
- Contribute to a culture of continual quality assurance and quality improvement within the service and workforce.
- As directed by the Designated Radiologist, review individual client cases, including but not limited to interval clients, cancer files and MDT cases. This may involve providing feedback to the radiologist involved in the case.
- Provide strategic input on the future development of the service, particularly relevant to the sustainability of high quality and timely provision of assessment clinics.Manage time and prioritising issues given the complexity and volume of the workload.
- Provide senior level clinical decision making, particularly in review of the performance of other clinicians.
- Contribute to the collegiate and professional communication within the radiology team and the BreastScreen NSW (SESI) team more broadly.

The primary location of this position may be varied as agreed with the Director of Medical Services and as approved by MDAAC to other facilities in SESLHD.

- Registration or eligible for registration with Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA). Candidate to provide on application AHPRA Registration Number.
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) and/or equivalent specialist recognition as provided for by the Health Insurance Act 1973 and the relevant Award/Determination, and demonstrated subspecialty training in Breast Mammography.
- Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
- Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high-quality services, demonstrated through extensive clinical practice in BreastScreen, including evidence of participation in relevant quality improvement activities.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching, and experience in teaching relevant post graduate trainees within the service.
- Demonstrate the skills and attitudes appropriate as a senior Medical Practitioner including modelling a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team across multiple sites.
- Demonstrated experience in and commitment to research relevant to the role and needs of the service.
