What you'll be doing
Accredited Radiation Oncology Trainees in the Northern NSW Training Network will provide quality patient care, demonstrating excellent clinical skills and judgement, in a complex and challenging clinical environment.
Trainees will gain expertise in every facet of Radiation Oncology, including but not limited to:
- Patient management during and after completion of treatment, outpatient clinical duties, inpatient consultation services, patient advocacy and care of the terminally ill
- Radiotherapy contouring and treatment planning under consultant supervision
- Maintaining professional relationships within the Cancer Services teams through communication with hospital departments and Network groups, and the supervision of junior staff.
By the end of training, the trainee should be able to provide a safe radiation oncology service to patients under supervision.
The successful applicants will be appointed as The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) Accredited Radiation Oncology Trainees within the Northern NSW Training Network, and will be appointed to a “home hospital”, where the successful applicant(s) will be working and training the majority of the time. Trainees will spend no more than four years at any single training site within their five year training program as per RANZCR requirements.
- The Northern NSW Network is comprised of the following training sites: Lismore Base Hospital, Coffs Harbour Health Campus, Port Macquarie Base Hospital, Calvary Mater Newcastle, Royal North Shore Hospital, RPA (Chris O’Brien Lifehouse), Westmead/Blacktown Hospitals and Nepean Hospital.
- The accredited position involves a minimum 12-month (1.0 FTE) rotation to another site within the Training Network to fulfil all curriculum requirements, in order for the trainee to attain their Fellowship with RANZCR, as per the RANZCR Training Policy. All sites within the Network participate in Network rotations.
- All Northern NSW Network trainees are required to complete a minimum of 6 months training at a regional site within the Network (e.g. Lismore, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie), therefore trainees with a metropolitan site as their ‘home hospital’ will spend a minimum of 6 months on rotation to a regional site, with a preference for 12-month allocations where practicable.
- Accredited Radiation Oncology Trainee contract terms comprise of an initial three-year contract and a subsequent two-year contract - provided the Advanced Trainee has met the required progression milestones – to allow adequate duration to reach their completion of training.
