Northern Beaches Hospital Special Care Unit is at a defining moment. Following the hospital's transition to Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) in April 2026, the SCU is now fully embedded within the NSW Health public system — bringing with it access to NSLHD clinical networks, education infrastructure, and research pathways, while retaining the innovation and family-centred culture that has defined this unit since its founding.

Where you'll be working

The Special Care Unit (SCU) at Northern Beaches Hospital is a 12-bed Level 4 neonatal unit providing high dependency and special care for infants from 32 weeks gestation. The SCN is located on Level 2, adjacent to the Birthing Suite, Maternity Wards and Paediatric Ward, enabling a seamless, family-focused continuum of care. The unit comprises 10 cot spaces, 2 isolation rooms, a dedicated treatment room with Newborn and Paediatric Emergency Transport Service (NETS) support. The SCU provides discrete NETS access by road and air (helipad) and operates as a single integrated service within the Paediatric stream. The unit is guided by NIDCAP philosophy, family-integrated care, contemporary care and has a high breastfeeding governance. As part of NSLHD, the SCN maintains a formal partnership with Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) NICU, supporting back-transfer pathways and clinical network collaboration.

What you'll be doing
The Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) is responsible for the design, delivery, and evaluation of clinical education programs across the SCU. Working in close partnership with the Nurse Unit Manager, Education Services Manager, and Senior Nurse Educator, the CNE will lead a culture of continuous learning, clinical excellence, and evidence-based practice. you will be involved in Clinical Education and Staff Development, Clinical Governance and Quality Projects as well as Leadership and Collaboration.

People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

Holds AHPRA Registration as a Registered Nurse AND holds relevant clinical or education post registration qualifications or such education and clinical experience deemed appropriate by the employer.

Demonstrated effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Demonstrated computer literacy.
