Upper Limb Occupational Therapist

For Occupational Therapists interested in upper limb neuro rehabilitation

This role is centred on upper limb rehabilitation within neurological practice, with a dedicated focus on developing your clinical specialty in this area.

It suits an Occupational Therapists who is drawn to:

Detailed analysis of upper limb movement and function
Understanding the mechanisms behind impairment and recovery
Refining intervention approaches over time rather than applying generic programs
Working within complex presentations and someone that love a challenge

The clinical work

You will work with clients presenting with:

Stroke
Acquired brain injury
Spinal cord injury
Cerebral palsy
Progressive neurological conditions

Your work will include:

Detailed upper limb assessment and movement analysis
Graded, task-specific intervention and functional retraining
Management of spasticity and motor control challenges
Sensory and motor re-education approaches
Integration of upper limb function into meaningful daily activities

Clinical environment and equipment

You will be working in a purpose-built neurological rehabilitation facility designed specifically for intensive neuro rehabilitation.

The clinic includes equipment that is not commonly available in private practice settings, including:

Upper limb rehabilitation systems including Saebo technologies
TyroMotion robotic systems (Diego and Myro)
Electrical stimulation including Xcite2 and RT300 FES Bike
X-Sensor pressure mapping for seating and positioning
Splinting and casting services

This environment supports hands-on neurological rehabilitation, where clinicians are encouraged to trial, adapt, and refine interventions using clinical reasoning and team collaboration.
Training and ongoing support are provided as part of onboarding. Prior experience with all equipment is not required.

Team environment

You will be part of a multidisciplinary team including Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Exercise Physiologists, Speech Pathologists, and Podiatrists.

Within the OT team, there is a strong culture of collaboration and shared learning. A dedicated upper limb space within the therapy space allows clinicians to work alongside each other using shared equipment, which naturally supports observation, discussion, and clinical learning.

This includes:

Joint sessions and clinical shadowing opportunities
Working alongside colleagues in the upper limb space to support informal learning
Regular case-based discussion and team learning sessions facilitated by our Upper Limb Clinical Educator

Professional development and progression

This role is designed to support clinicians developing specialist skills in upper limb rehabilitation, with opportunities to broaden across neurological practice.

Each team member develops both 12-month and 3-year professional and personal goals, which are actively supported by mentors, team leaders, and Directors.

You will have access to:

Structured 1:1 clinical mentoring
Occupational Therapy group mentoring
Internal and external professional development opportunities
Joint sessions and shadowing with the Upper Limb Clinical Educator
Dedicated group learning opportunities
Annual Planning and Progress Meetings with Directors to support your goals

Beyond clinical skills

We also support the practical skills required to work effectively in private practice — areas that are often not covered at university.
This includes:

Understanding funding systems
Report writing
Referral relationship development
Diary and caseload management
Private practice workflows
Use of AI in healthcare

Many of our clinicians transition from public health or interstate roles, and support is provided to ensure this transition is smooth and sustainable. You will also have access to templates, examples, and peer support to build confidence and efficiency.

How the role operates

Clinic-based neurological rehabilitation practice
Community and home-based intervention where clinically appropriate
Practice is guided by our Clinical Excellence Indicators, which provide a clear framework for quality, consistency, and clinical standards across the team

Our purpose-built clinic includes:

3 large specialised rehab spaces
20 individual treatment rooms
Dedicated paediatric neurological therapy spaces
Tyromotion MYRO and DIEGO robotic therapy systems
Upper limb therapy equipment including Saebo
Electrical stimulation including Xcite2 and FES Bike
Splinting and casting services
DMI Therapy
XSensor pressure mapping system
Advanced seating and positioning clinic

This allows you to deliver therapy that is hands-on, intensive, and outcomes-focused.
