For over 30 years, Orygen has led groundbreaking early intervention and developed evidence-based models of care to improve the mental health outcomes of young people aged 12-25.

About the job

Mental Health Clinicians are committed, passionate mental health professionals providing assessment, planning and implementation services for recovery-oriented interventions at Orygen’s headspace centers. Mental Health Clinicians collaborate in a multidisciplinary setting, engage diverse communities, and promote inclusive, trauma-informed, and culturally safe care.

Reporting to the Clinical Services Manager you will:

Provide a comprehensive intake service to young people, community members and professionals seeking services, conducting initial engagement and assessment sessions.
Deliver evidence-informed brief interventions, including group interventions, including the support of youth and family/carer participation at the centre.
Build and maintain collaborative working relationships within the service and with external providers, participating in the development and delivery of school and community based mental health awareness/ promotion activities as appropriate.
Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical records.
Participate in and promote research and evaluation projects conducted at the headspace centre.

Skills and experience

The following criteria must be met for consideration for this position:

Approved tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Mental Health Nursing) and must have full/provisional general registration with AHPRA or eligibility for AASW.
Have experience or knowledge of working with young people between 12 to 25 years of age, in the provision of mental health care, including an understanding of their developmental stages and transitions.
Experience completing mental health assessments, shared decision-making, risk assessments, and crisis intervention/ safety planning; psychoeducation and short-term/ brief interventions
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills across diverse stakeholders, including a multi-disciplinary team, and First Nations, culturally diverse and LGBTQI+ backgrounds.
Proficient in clinical documentation and willing to engage in research and ongoing learning.
