Primary objective
Lead the development and execution of Northern Territory's tourism development programs, driving growth across key sectors while
strengthening Aboriginal tourism initiatives, trade distribution, program delivery, product expansion, destination development and
enhancing visitor experiences through strategic partnerships and stakeholder collaboration.
Context Statement
The Tourism Development function within Tourism and Events NT focusses on product development and innovation, and facilitating
investment and activation to enhance tourism offerings, and build partnerships in line with the Visitor Economy Strategy 2032.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Oversee the implementation and operational delivery of tourism development programs and priorities aligned with the NT Visitor

Economy Strategy 2032, including designing program criteria and allocating funding which requires balancing diverse stakeholder
expectations against government priorities and budget constraints.

2. Lead the implementation of the Aboriginal tourism strategy and regional tourism development initiatives across dispersed teams
and a broad, challenging geography, requiring coordination with multiple agencies to align objectives and resourcing and to
overcome barriers to progress.

3. Manage and build strategic partnerships with industry bodies and provide specialist tourism development advice to key stakeholders
including Executive Directors, Senior Managers, tourism operators, Aboriginal tourism stakeholders, regional organisations, local
governments, commercial partners and investors.

4. Evaluate and assess the effectiveness of grant programs and initiatives focused on the tourism industry, providing specialist tourism
development advice and making recommendations on which programs and projects should be prioritised based on performance
metrics and alignment with relevant Northern Territory Government strategies.

5. Represent the Department on strategic regional, Northern Territory and National level working groups, stakeholder forums,
committees and boards to promote the growth of the tourism industry.

Selection Criteria
Essential
1. Tertiary qualification(s) in a relevant discipline combined with relevant senior executive experience, or an equivalent combination

of substantial relevant senior executive experience and education and training.
2. Demonstrated senior level experience in designing, managing and delivering tourism development initiatives and grant programs,

with proven ability to establish funding mechanisms and evaluation frameworks to assess program effectiveness.
3. Proficiency in translating high-level strategic frameworks into operational delivery, with experience implementing regional

development programs that require cross-departmental collaboration and alignment of tourism priorities within broader economic
development objectives.

4. Specialist knowledge of the NT tourism sector combined with commercial acumen, including business and policy development,
tourism investment, tourism distribution, an understanding of sector-specific challenges.

5. Highly developed interpersonal communication and leadership skills with experience in managing teams and maintaining operational
effectiveness across a large geographic footprint with dispersed teams.

6. Senior level competency and experience in stakeholder coordination and relationship management across industry peak bodies,
government agencies, and regional partners to maximise collaborative effectiveness.

7. High level strategic, conceptual, analytical, and project management skills.

1. Experience working within a government context.
